Plateauing a Week Earlier than Usual

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure I hit my 3 week stall a week early. I'm thinking it has something to do with me losing 20 lbs on my pre-op diet + 18 lbs the first week and a half post-op. I'm averaging between 59 and 77 grams of Protein per day and getting in all of my fluids (60+ oz), so I'm pretty sure that's not it. I haven't even started pureed or soft foods yet, just liquids. And, for me, that is Protein shakes, Water, and an occasional 12 oz bottle of G2. I'll have Soup broth a couple of nights a week if I'm feeling it.

Any ideas on how to break it? I'm pretty sure this has been posted several times, but I can't seem to find the post.

I plateaued at a week and a half out on full liquids. It just broke this weekend, 2.5 weeks later. My stall held on through the two weeks of soft foods and didn't begin to budge until I went moved on to baked/grilled fish and chicken/tuna/egg salad. I had been getting in less than 70 carbs a day, at least 80 gm of Protein a day, and all my fluids but nothing would break it. Since starting with the fish I have been getting in less than 20 gm of carbs a day and 100+ gm of protein a day. I think I was still getting what what considered low carbs but apparently I have to do uber low carbs for my body to get what I'm supposed to be doing. You may not be doing anything wrong. Your body has to catch up. I lost a little over 40 pounds the month before I got sleeved (including my preop diet) and then 17 pounds in the first week and a half after being sleeved. I was doing everything right as far as I know it just took some time. Measure yourself if you haven't. Even in my stall I dropped a pant size. I've read that when you aren't losing pounds you are losing inches and that seemed to be true for me. That first stall (and I'm sure all subsequent ones) is super frustrating but keep your head up, it will break! Good luck chickadee!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
