Addiction: It is a Slippery Slope...

Recommended Posts

I am one of those who freely admit to having a food addiction/obsession.

One thing I've noticed about myself postop. More so than usual, I've become fixated on my iPhone. I cannot stop fidgeting with it.

I cannot binge. I'm avoiding all my trigger foods to keep losing and stay in ketosis. Sooooooo. Now more than ever b4, I grab my phone. I check VST. I check FB. I check email. Play a game. Put it back. Less than 30 seconds later I'm doing it again.

To those who read this, you may dismiss me as being silly. Making mountains out of mole hills. I know this is a little thing, but I do believe addiction is a slippery slope. I think the constant fidgeting with my phone has become my food substitute.

Am I the only one noticing this kind of thing, not necessarily this specifically, on some level?

Yes you are totally correct. Most people dont want to talk about this or admit it but its very true. I am not a coucilor but I think its a transfer of distractions from whatever you dont want to deal with. Before you used food to do this, not that you cant use food, you are using your phone, for others it can be shopping, gambling, smoking, social networking anything to keep your mind numb from what you are not facing head on. I will be the first to admit I would like to see a councilor to talk about my issues, god knows my plates full..lol. I dont just want a healthy body, I want a healthy mind too. It matters. Thanks for posting this.

I'm going to start going to my counselor again. I'm not sure where I will fit it in, but its worth it.

I am also seeing a therapist once a month to deal with post-op issues. I met her when I was referred pre-op by my surgeon's psychiatrist. Post-surgery I thought I wouldn't need her, but the 3 week post-op blues hit and I gave her a call. It has helped, I think, because I was also food addicted and still a little scared to transfer that to another unhealthy thing.

Hmmm....I've transferred it to surfing the web. I've noticed that I've increased my spending too. Luckily it hasn't been any big spending....I'm just glad it's spring time and I can mess around with my plants. I'm going to try patio gardening.

My spending has potential to be a problem. If I let it.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
