What did it feel like when you woke up from surgery?

Recommended Posts

I felt pretty good too... I chalk it up to the anesthesiologist put a scopolamine patch on me before the OR and my physician inserted an On Q pump into my abdomen..., continuously administers numbing/pain med into the abdomen thru a small tube via one the incisions. I think these two things made my recovery easier.

When I awoke I was in the OR and that was long enough for them to remove my breathing tube.... but I was still very out of it because I don't remember anything other than Asking what time it was and letting EVERYONE know that I was in pain.

I was moved to recovery somehow and I was on a PCA attached to my IV, so I could get pain meds every 10 minutes. Around 30 minutes after they initially woke me up in the OR, my husband said that I looked at him and my eyes drifted off in opposite directions.

I felt completely dizzy from the meds and the pain is like getting beat up really bad in the stomach (at least for me it was). Around Day 3 it felt more like I did 5000 sit ups.

I was unable to eat or drink anything for 1 day to allow the maximum swelling to go down, and quite frankly I really didn't want anything other than a sip of Water. My throat was itchy and my uvula was swollen. The nurses tried to get me up to walk and I swear I could not keep myself up. Both hubby and the nurse had to help me walk for 5 minutes before I turned back to the bed.

Also I had a slight fever.

I had outpatient procedure. When i woke, it felt like seconds had passed since the anesthesiologist told me to listen to her voice count down. My pain levels were fine and I was able to change and go home very quickly. Pain level was highest the first two days then went down to almost nothing

Horrible. Plus I'm virtually blind without contacts so I was in a foggy hell. But it got better. I am brutally honest because of you turn out like me don't worry. Everything is normal. Whether you feel tired or horrid as I did, it will pass.

I woke up to the worst pain ever. I would hit the button on my morphine pump until I passed out then do it again. I told the recovery room nurse my pain was a 15/10. Amazingly the next day I stepped down and the next was on liquid pain meds I went home with. I was sleeved Wednesday the 8th and yesterday I went pain med free.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
