Anyone with Hidradenitis suppurativa  have the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Hidradenitis suppurativa is where you have infected sweat glands in your groin or underarm area. I was wondering if someone with this condition has had the surgery and if so if their conditions improve due to the surgery.

Thanks!

Tina

Yes!

I've had persistant Hidradenitis Supporativa for years (about 20 now), which had been almost always active, including now.

Had Sleeve surgery 6 days ago. One infected area is completely dry and the 'bad' area under my armpit is oozing alot less puss. I have a feeling it will close up by itself soon.

To be honest I'm kind of shocked, did not expect this to almost cure up entirely in a week.

In case it goes away entirely I'd let you know. For now theres like 80% improvement!

Thanks for the response. Mine isn't bad and only flairs up every once in awhile. Hopefully it won't happen at all once the weight is lost. Glad to hear you'd is already getting better. Good luck!

Oh? Did you get the surgery already? Did your HS respond?

I had surgery on the 20th. Haven't had any issues from the HS but it hasn't been acting up for a few months.

I'm almost certain its related to certain types of food. After surgery it was almost gone since I haven't eaten anything but liquids for a week. When I started eating mushy stuff it started flaring up again. I kind of suspect it may have something to do with milk?

Yes, I too have HS and unfortunately mine actually flared up after surgery. I have a mild case but it progressed to moderate a few weeks post-op. My surgeon advised it is relatively normal for this to happen and it should settle down as my body gets back to normal.

I'm praying the weight loss will help clear it up, but who knows? Best of luck to you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
