Gallbladder attack...without a gallbladder???

Recommended Posts

Well I thought it was done with. About 2 months I had my gallbladder removed so I figured that I would have no more problems. Well last night I ate potato cheese Soup *something that had sparked an attack before I got my gallbladder out* and sure enough I had that same searing pain in my upper abdomen. It makes no sense to me. I don't have a gallbladder...but it was exactly the same pain.

*confused*

Wow! I hope you get some answers!!! Maybe esophagitis? I have no clue!! I have heard of people having surgery and then having to go back in because they had a stone left in the duct, but it happens soon following surgery, not months.

I will be watching to see what you find out!!

Good Luck!

Kat

hi there,

i am not a doctor, but i know you can develop stones in the bile duct even after you have had your gallbadder removed. and yes it's teh same type of attack.

hopefully you go see your doctor, they can check it out with a blood test and an ultrasound.

good luck!

FYI, I had my gallbladder out and had to go back to the hospital about 3 weeks later with the same pain....you guessed it, I had stones that had gotten stuck in my bile duct.

I ended up with a infection in my pancreas which can be fatal. So go back to your doctor immediately!

YES IT IS POSSIBLE!!

You can form stones in the common duct that leads from the liver..... if there is one there it can cause the same pain.. sometimes can be worse.. you need to have that taken care of.. i suggest you see your dr..

Its not very often that this happens.. but it is definatley possible!!

When I had my gallbladder removed, there was a woman in the hospital bed next to me who had her gallbladder removed 10 years ago and had to go back in because she had stones in her bile duct (seriously, 10 years later). Go get it checked out!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
