Can I get the sleeve at the same time my band is taken out?

Recommended Posts

I had my band placed 6/6/06 it had slipped to the middle of my esophagus and was causing heart complications. I was hospitalized 11 days and the drs never thought my band would cause it. After being discharged I asked my dr to send me for an upper GI. Long story short

My wonderful Dr. Removed the band and converted to a sleeve the same day.

Surgery took 3 hours and it was the best decision of my life. My Dr was George Mutafyan in Glendale CA. He's a wonderful surgeon and I'm very happy with my sleeve. No more stuck feeling and heart rate over 125.

Do you have to be a certain weight for band to

Be removed and sleeve done. I have had so many

Complications and pain in the year I have had this band

I am down to 153 but still have 40 to go I want this thing

Out but need to continue my journey

I had this same question. I'm only about 30 lbs from goal (BMI 27) and Medicare wouldn't have paid for it except that my band has a complication. Even if you're at goal weight, if there's a complication, I don't think it matters. Obesity is a lifelong problem - you're not cured once you've made it to goal. I have a whole lifetime to keep it off.

Check out your insurance requirements. They may say the same thing.

And thanks to all who replied. I'm not having the revision done until my Alaskan cruise (in 3 weeks) and my vacation to Ca are over (late June), so my tummy's inflammation should be down by then.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
