Felt like I was hit by a bus, but...

Recommended Posts

I am officially sleeved!

Arrived at hospital 8:30, but didn't get into OR until noon.

Soooooo nauseous after recovery! Had to keep eyes closed and just moan, slurring when I tried to talk. Shoulders painful on deep breaths.

But, after a few hours and a couple of good pees (sorry, TMI), i walked the hall for over 20 minutes!

Slow to start drinking, but I'm catching up! No nausea there, whew! Feeling awake and so much better.

I AM A SLEEVER!

Congrats! Sounds like my recovery. Nauseated, thirsty, grumpy. But after I was up an about walking, I couldn't stop walking.

I still can't take a really deep breath without my shoulders hurting, but no problems drinking, and I am up and walking around as usual.

The only thing that really bothers me is my surgeon put a small catheter into one of the incisions to slow-drip a pain-deadener, and I have to wear this bag that holds the ball of medicine that goes to the catheter. It gets in the way, and pulls on my still-sore neck. But it should come out today, and then I can move more freely.

I'm at my parents' house so I can have help if I need it, and they very kindly moved into the third floor bedroom so I could have their second-floor bedroom and not have to climb so many stairs.

Yay for generous parents! They both say they are proud of me for doing this. (To tell the truth, I expected negativity!)

I likened post-op to having been on an all-night bender that ended in a bar brawl!

Took out the pain-killer drip because it kept getting in the way. Don't notice any increase in pain without it, so what was it really doing anyway?

Except for some twinges in the middle of standing up or sitting down, I don't feel any different from before the surgery. (Oh! Except for no hunger!) Got all my fluids and Protein in, walked around the house a lot, and even got on the elliptical machine for two minutes to try it out.

I'm not on any kind of pain med, so tomorrow I'm going to try to drive so I can get back to my own house. (it's an hour away.)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
