Okay' date=' I DO NOT NEED ADVICE ABOUT SCHOOL. I need advice at how to address the situation with the doctors office. The coordinator created this delimma. I need them to correct it. I need advice about how I should go about approaching the situation.[/quote']

Your only real chance there is IF you can speak directly to the surgeon MAYBE he can get your case expedited. But the chances of getting surgery within a week is very slim.

Um I'm pretty calm. The only comments I see are in regards to all these options that I *should* have for school. I'm thinking the strict guidelines to scholarship programs are not being understood. I asked for advice about the coordinators mistake with the surgical office. Not about my school prediciment. The mistake on behalf of the coordinator is what has placed additional stress on other situations.

I tried to start this process in the fall semester, missed class and got put on probation. I simply cannot afford to lose $40,000 in scholarship money.

Dear Lani,

This letter is to inform you that your appeal for Spring 2013 has been approved and you are being placed on probationary status for your Reisher Family Scholarship.

As we have discussed previously, you were suspended from the Reisher Program for not completing 12 credit hours for the Fall 2012 semester. After reviewing your appeal, you have been given a second chance to receive your scholarship.

As a result of your probation you will be required to:

  • Complete 100% of the classes you attempt for the semester. No withdrawals will be permitted after census date.
  • Enroll in the classes listed on your academic plan to ensure your timely graduation.
  • Keep in regular contact with me especially if you are struggling to meet the eligibility requirements. We can work to find you additional support as needed.
  • RSVP to all event invitations. However, you can be excused in advance if you need time for family, other scholarship events or school.
  • Attend a mid-semester progress report meeting for the Spring 2013 semester with the Reisher Peer Advocate. Available dates and times will be sent to you via email in the coming months.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Blank

@ O.T.R specialist,

Do you know if the 10 day liquid diet is absolute? I know other people (family) who had the surgery in late 80s, and another in late 90s. They did not do a liquid diet.

Your biggest problem is that to my knowledge there is not a doctors office on the planet that works on your schedule, you have to find a way to work on their schedule. I wasn't trying to give you school advice, just trying to let you know the most likely choices you have to get things done. I don't know your Dr. but the threat to go elsewhere probably does not bother him/her. Most doctors have plenty if not too many patients and the loss of one is no big deal. People are human and make mistakes, you need to find a way to work around it or wait till you have another break, a year is a long time to wait, but better than not at all. Switching doctors will delay even more, most well make you go through their education class, you will need an initial consultation, possibly other appts. and whatever else the new Dr. requires of their patients, plus that Dr. will have to resubmit to insurance, but since your already approved that may be able to be expedited and done in 1 to 2 weeks all that puts you another month or longer out. From what you described it sound like trying to get things sped up like your doing, make sure you remain civil and polite no matter what or they may drop you before you can drop them. If it doesn't work keep your appt. on the 20th and work the surgery for a day you have off school our at least the fewest class to miss and explain to instructors of any class you may miss your situation, hope they understand. Many of us were released from hospital within 24 hours, I was released after 20 hours, of course that is up to your Dr. and how well you do after surgery, be prepared for up to 2 or 3 days. My sister goes to that same school and I know you can miss a couple classes without any recourse, I am sure you don't want to, but based on what you have said it's either this or wait a year. You can always call around to other doctors in the area and see what time frame and requirements your looking at while continuing with current Dr.

But what is anyone gonna do about the coordinators mistake? All they would tell you to do is to contact the surgeon's office and you have already done that. With a less than a week to get surgery it is highly unlikely you would get it done even if resolved by that office. We are just giving other advice. If you dont like the advice on how to work with your school schedule I'm sure the rest of us will just say you are screwed. You have followed all the necessary steps.

That is a really strict school btw for getting put on probation for missing a class..id hate to catch the flu there.

I'm not OTR but it depends on the surgeon...I have no preop diet but most people do...some are for a few days, some a week, some 2 weeks

It varies per doctor and it its rare if not impossible for a doctor to give exceptions on something they believe will be better for you medically. My Doctor is so strict he only required a 2 week clear liquid diet, but required Protein shakes ordered from a specific company through their office so they know your doing it and to prevent cheating, if you don't lose at least 15 pounds by surgery you get cancelled right their in the surgical prep room.

Considering that my surgery should have been in April, but was not due to the office coordinators mistake and given that she is the one who neglected to submit all of the documentation; that there are few doctors who due the surgery here, and the hospital is a center of excellence recipient. (which encompasses all of the facilities within it) they should be extremely accommodating. Further, I completed all of my steps based around their schedule and timed my surgery knowing when I would be on break (it's in my medical records because I spoke to the surgeon about it in December). I can make a phone call to the medical board and have a negligence case opened up again them as well, bad publicity. Someone who has something bad to say about them, and them being under review means they lose patients and money as well as the center for excellency award. I spoke to one of the nurses and she said the coordinator has done this before and is on probationary status with the surgical association. She is going to contact them Monday to have me moved to the front of the schedule since I should have had my surgery last month. And since it is their fault, they now have to accommodate me.

When I spoke to my insurance company, they said there is no necessity to have a pre-op diet, and that they do not require weight loss prior to the surgery.. So, I wonder if it is something with the doctors.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
