2 days post-op, stomach grumbling... is it a issue?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm out of surgery by 2 days and have been drinking my 2 oz of liquid every 15 minutes. Haven't really had many issues until a couple hours ago; my tummy is growling and doing all types of weird stuff. I don't feel overly "full" but am worried that this growling means I don't/won't have enough restriction (or that i'm stretching out my pouch!?!?!) Any advice?

I think you are fine if it is just noises you are hearing. After my surgery, my stomach became the source of entertainment at dinner time with all it's noises, growls and gurgles. It has gotten a little better as time has gone on, but it is still vocal. I have no problem with the trade off of having a noisy stomach but being able to eat less and lose weight.

deep breaths and relax. Your stomach is recovering and is missing 85% of itself. you are stretching as most of what your are drinking is just passing on through. Are you taking a PPI? That would help with the extra gas and acid in your stomach and that would cut down on the sounds quite a bit, and you are not far enough along to have restrictions as of yet.

It's called "grouchy pouch". I'm 7 weeks out and still have it but it gets less and less. I hear it can last up to a year but normally is gone by 4-6 months. I wish I knew what causes it. Just out of curiousity. Feels sounds and feels like gas. Not swallowing air.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
