I had my 1 month (really, 5 weeks) post op appointment today. My surgeon's PA told me I needed to increase my calories. I'm eating between 700-1000 calories per day. What is everyone else taking in and how many months post op are you?

I eat whatever I want to eat. Sometimes I make shrimp and asparagus and sometimes I eat Taco Bell. My main goal is maintaining my Protein between 50-70 grams. I really LOVE Greek yogurt. I have that almost everyday for Breakfast. I also have some WonderSlim products that I eat from too. Cottage cheese, laughing cow cheese, chicken salad, ham salad, beef angus burger (no bread). I do a fairly good job at getting my Proteins in. I feel fine, I'm not starving to death. I just wanted to know if anyone else's doc wants them to eat 1200 calories per day? From what I've read on here, most people like to stay at 800 calories when losing and 1200 for maintenance.

At 5 weeks out, I was eating anywhere from 600 to 700 calories. My doctor didn't seem to have a problem with it either.

I am almost 4 months out, I wasn't sure how many calories to eat so I was staying at or under 500. My doc gave me a huge leture at my three month check up...long story short I am to do a min of 850-1000. But each doc is different and I suppose it depends on your blood panels and nutrition. I have to say I feel so much better eating more though, finally got my energy back!!!! :-)

That's always a much discussed topic here...

You are going to get people that will very strong in their opinions on only eating 800 or under until maintenance....

Then there are the ones that are eating closer to 1000 to 1200... And are losing

You need to do what works for you and know that your doctor was trained in this area and knows the healthy way of doing things..

I had my 2nd post op visit and am almost 8 weeks out. It's the first time I've seen a nutritionist since starting this journey. And I'm so glad because I've really been struggling. I was banded before and the sleeve is completely different. I was released to eat whatever I want; however the RD gave me some very good guidelines. He wants me to stay between 700-800 calories and 80-100 grams of Protein per day. He told me that this was necessary for the best weight loss for the first 6 months. He gave me a daily diet to use as an example until I get the hang of it. He explained to me that if I were to eat more than 1000 calories per day I would be eating a lot of carbs which would slow my metabolism and therefore my weight loss. Of course every doc has their own treatment plan. This is mine. Good luck.

I eat between 500-800 a day, but I strive for 800 a day. I have definitely noticed that the more I eat the better I feel. The first 3 weeks I wasn't eating enough and couldn't get my shake down. I felt horrible! By the time I took my shower I was so exhausted I would sit down to comb my hair. Now that I'm eating, getting my shake down and hitting 60+ grams of Protein I feel great.

I'm just over three months out. I eat 800 or less each day. I really struggle to get more than that in

I was only eating 500 - 600 calories a day and I was losing pretty slowly. I increased my calories to around 1000 +/- and I have started losing much quicker. However, I have been working out quite a bit also. I'm sure I needed the added calories to maintain my fitness routine.

I agree, each person needs to find their "sweet spot". Where they lose well, feel well, and have plenty of energy.

Lifting days I get in anywhere from 800-1000 calories with 110g Protein. Cardio days I'm more around 600-700 with 85g protein. 5 weeks out.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
