For the first time I am not obsessed with running to buy half-off easter candy and hiding it from my husband

Recommended Posts

Oh man, there has been a change in me. For the first time since I have been old enough to drive and have my own money I am not obsessed with running to buy clearanced easter candy. This week I was able to eat pretty intuitively (not obsessing over limits) and still lose three pounds.

This is more than I could have ever wished for.

Congratulations Grace! I know that is definitely a wonderful feeling. I know that we have had our differences in the past, but I wanted to reply to this. I have always loved Easter candy the most! The Cadbury Cream eggs & the Cadbury Mini eggs with the Milk chocolate & thin sugar shell were my absolute weaknesses. The day after Easter I would go to the pharmacy & clear out any of those that they had left. I was able to make a huge Easter basket from my boyfriend and hold it together...well mostly.

I know you will LOVE this part. ;) I broke down and bought the mini shell eggs for myself on Friday. When my boyfriend went to bed I took them out to have "a few" while I played a game online. Well, I had them on my lap & had eaten exactly 3 when the bag fell on the hardwood floor! Eggs were rolling everywhere & the cat & dog came running to try to get in on the action. I picked up the bag & there was not even one left inside.

I had to get the broom, sweep them up & throw them all away...lol. A serving size of Cadbury mini eggs is 12 for 190 calories. So, I got 1/4 of a serving and 47.5 calories. :P I think it was my bodies way of saying, "We didn't lose 76 pounds by eating chocolate! It was a blessing in disguise.

So, A very big congrats to you for not giving in at all!

I am still in my pre-op and I was just thinking the same thing! I was so proud that I don't even want candy! Congrats to you!! It really shows the process that this tool of a sleeve is helping! It has changed your mind and your eating habits!! It makes me feel better to know I am not the only one that gets excited about the little steps!! :)

This is kind of shameful but last easter I ate SO MANY of those little cadbury eggs that they still don't sound appealing, a whole year later.

Hahaha hiding it. Lol. Man we are all so similar. :) I too love my sleeve. For this holiday, I've only had 3/4 of a Cadbury egg and 3 whopper eggs. 2 diff days. Holidays were madness before the sleeve. I'd tell myself I wouldnt, but oh man, CADBURY EGGS!! Or my mother in law would make some dessert I just couldn't say no to and I'd eat 1 and then sneak back and get another, and then eat some of the kids easter candy on the way home. And on and on and on. I didn't even have ONE caramel Cadbury egg this year, I just realized. (They are my fave and is generally eat about 15/ season. ).

Isn't this feeling of freedom amazing!!?

Count yourself lucky that you haven't tasted them & if you see them DON'T BUY THEM for heavens sake! It will just be one more food to avoid. :(

Well, at least they weren't a temptation for you this year. Those silly little eggs are addictive! I honestly don't think that I can say that I ever ate so much of anything that I didn't want to eat it anymore. Probably because I was like a bottomless pit. However, about 10 years ago I was out one night with friends drinking some kind of blue martini. I got SO sick. To this day just seeing a blue drink or even "blue" anything listed as an ingredient in a drink makes my stomach turn. 10 years!

This is my first Easter in years without Reese's Peanut Butter eggs. I made my parents an Easter basket and then made one for my mother in law and I wasn't even tempted. I ate a Hershey's kiss a week or so ago and realized that chocolate does not taste the same. Bummer. RIP peanut butter eggs.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
