Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Yup, November 4th is our November meeting.

Let's plan a date in October. I'm free on the 15th and the 20th of October. Will those dates work for anyone?

October 15th is the last presidential debate, so how about October 20th?

Also, do you Denver area folks want to do a potluck/$5 gift exchange at my house for December? I could host on Dec. 9 or 11.

YAY woofay's back! You were dearly missed my friend! I think once you are healed up, you are going to feel like a million bucks! I left my Uterus at Parker Adventist (LOL) two years ago. Have you checked out www.Hystersisters.com? That site helped me out a lot. PM me if you want to chat.

I am so happy to see you back here.

Oh, yes!! Hystersisters is awesome! Very helpful group.

Thanks, Dee! Is the 15th Wed? Am I still welcome to RR? And no, I can't believe that its almost winter again. Yuck. But in another way, kinda glad to see this one go. I noticed your ticker...My goodness your doing well. I could bust with excitement for you! Give yourself a pat! And Mal's picture from the race is really showing her change too! There is about 200 pages of stuff I haven't caught up on...wow. Probably will never have the time!:smile2:

NO! You're not welcome!!! AND please don't show up on the 15th BECAUSE WE WON'T BE THERE! SILLY SILLY Girl!

Of course you're welcome! You're one of the charter members of the Bandito Red Robin Groupies! You better be there! I can't wait to see you! We'll meet on the 20th of October! I don't want to miss the last presidental debate!

Oh my. I just went to a seven course Thai dinner with a different wine served at each course. Made it through the first three courses okay (they were small, appetizer thingys), but by the fourth I was feeling STUFFED. So I had one bite of each of the last four courses, and one sip of each of the last four wines.

Now, I feel like I ate a horse (of course) but I know I didn't really eat all that much. The lap band is an amazing thing.

That being said, my weight loss is soooooo slow. I'm really hoping the metformin will help. My blood sugar is really messed up. My fasting ranges anywhere from 90 to 135. My 2 hour after meal values can go really high with even a small amount of carbs. I just think my whole metabolic system is a mess. Sigh.

Thanks for letting me whine.

I'm sorry to hear about your blood sugars! Really 90 to 135 isn't so bad, Dear. How much Metformin are you taking? Are you taking it in several doses? You can whine all you want!

Your dinner sounded yummy!

I lost 2.4lbs this week. Finally, I'm moving in the right direction! I was stalled. It might be that muscle weighs more than fat and I have been doing my lifting.

Thanks Dee, it was an amazing experience wasn't it? Did you get a hat at the race? I have worn mine every day this week. It is the perfect gym hat. I LOVE free stuff, I got lots of stuff. I didn't get the scarf, I really wanted one but I couldn't find the booth that had them.

How is the BFL going? I should have started this week, but I tell ya, I am hesitant, I don't know if I can do it???

I did get a hat. I am sending it to my girlfriend who is still in treatment. She needs something cute to cover her head. I talked to her yesterday on the phone and she has such a good attitude. She's about half way through her chemo. Such a brave soul!

The BFL is a lot of work, I admit. I am also not perfect with the lifting, but I am with the swimming. I confess I have missed a day a week but I force myself to do something - cycling or swimming. I just can't always get to the weights.

My weight stalled from Water retention and hopefully muscle weight, but this morning I am down 2.4 lbs since last Friday.

Shelbi? Are you out there? How's it going?

Also, do you Denver area folks want to do a potluck/$5 gift exchange at my house for December? I could host on Dec. 9 or 11.

I think the 20th is perfect for me! I hope it's good for everyone else. So let's say October 20th, Red Robin, Arapahoe and I-25 at 7pm. If anyone has a problem with it, I may be able to change - speak up Banditos! We don't want to miss your lovely presence!

Well Gang, I've done a couple of drive-bys. I haven't had a chance to read everything yet. Chatty Cathies! (did anyone else have that doll?)

I have a second interview for the Research Assistant job on Tuesday and then I have another interview for a Diabetic Educator in the Springs. I'd have to relocate early next year, I'd have a company car and have to travel south quite a lot to work with the patients in Pueblo and those tiny towns down south. I'm a little weary of this job, because of all the travel... Spring, Summer, Fall would be fine, but Winter would really suck!

I really want the Research Assistant job, I hope I get it!

I haven't started the Met yet. I'm waiting for my PCP to send some blood test results to the bariatrics guy.

OOOO, I hope you get the research job. Fingers, toes, and droopy boobs are all crossed!!

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!! Congrats on your weight loss this week. That's fantastic!

Goodie! I can't wait to see you! I'm wearing your clothes now that the weather is getting cooler and they are fitting me! I wore Mal's pants the other day! I love it! You guys rock!

Are you still with the school system?

I see. Then, Dear, 135 is not bad at all for a fasting. Stay extremely well hydrated and try to do some kind of activity post meal, those things will help with your blood sugars too. I just started taking Probiotics. I got them from GNC. I'll let you know if they help with weight loss. There are some claims that they do. I also have such a hard time with being 'regular' - I'm hoping that helps too!

Oh good. It freaks me out when it's all over the map like that. I'm so glad I know someone who knows about this stuff! Well, I'm so glad I know you for all kinds of reasons - that's just a teeny piece of it.

Anyhoo, I think I'll try probiotics too. I am sooo irregular, too. I have been exercising and I do think that's helping with the sugars a bit.

I"m wondering if it is time for a 2nd fill already? I had my first fill on 10/2, just over a week ago, and got 1.8cc. I felt restriction for about 5 days, but now am feeling very little restriction for the past two days. Can I call Dr. K's office and schedule a 2nd fill, or do I have to wait 4 weeks between fills?

thanks & Happy Friday everybody

That happened to me, too, after my first fill but then it came back again. I would give it a couple of days.

So I am really PO'd right now and need to vent!

I just got a bill from the dr that gave me my 2nd fill for $274.32! When I called to set up an appointment I asked how much I would be charged. Now, just to be clear I called more than once to make sure I was getting the real price and not just because I was banded out of state. They told me the fill was $150. And there was a new patient fee of 100 (which they didn't ask for then, but i figured they would bill me). So I was looking at about $250 total right? Apparently they lied every time I called because now on top of the $150 ALREADY paid, they want the 274.32. If I knew they were charging $425 I would have gone back to Dr K and stayed overnight!!!

Please tell me it's not just me!! :smile2::cursing::wub::cursing::lol::cursing:

Oh NO! Lotza isn't not just you!!! It's them! Just as Mini said, I'd call and ask, "why would you tell me one thing and do another?" I know my PCP's billing dept. sucks! AND I am constantly getting billed in error. Many docs have 'stay at home Mom's' do their billing. The errors can be bad! I'd verify that price with the office and double check that you got credit for the 150 that you already paid!

I am waiting for them to call me back, I had to leave a message. It says that I have already paid $150 right on the bill, so they'd better not try to pull a fast one!

Anita~ Nice to see you. Glad to hear you are recovering from surgery well. My gallbladder was a heckava lot worse than lap band... I can't imagine how it would feel to have my uterus removed and a hernia repaired all at once!! Take it easy missy! :smile2:

Marie~ Hope your bill gets straightened out. I was told my fills were $100 then when I went in they suddenly were $150 becuase they didn't realize I had my surgery elsewhere when quoting me. Uh yeah... I think not. Still cheaper than flying back to CO and possibly having to stay overnight etc. Hopefully it is a clerical error. Crossing fingers for you.

My weigh in for today is the same. -0... +0... no change.

I am still in a funk, haven't gone to the gym and have been eating like crap. Someone please help me get back on track. Phooey.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
