Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Tagging on to Gen's post.

I lost 4 (!!!!) in the past week making my challenge total lost so far at 6. I still have 5 to go. Don't think I'll make it.

I am flying up to Denver on Wednesday afternoon (late) for a Thursday morning fill. My restriction is marginal; it's there when I eat but a meal sure doesn't last long. It's a whirlwind trip this time; home Thursday afternoon because I have a class at 6 p.m. that night.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Hey Robin,

My flight was cancelled. Maybe they will put me on your flight, or I will have to go another day. Bummer! :(

Hope you get to go!

Just curious....

Do any of you ladies that have good restriction somethimes have "hungry days" I have been hungry all day today. I eat and then I am hungry again soon. Wondering if it's PMS? (I really don't think that it is a band problem)

This is kind of disconcerting for me, since I am rarely, if ever, hungry.... and especailly not like this.

Julie, I think it is PMS. This happened to me this week, I had one day where I was totally ravenous....and next day, sure enough, TOM.

I did get put on your flight tonight Robin. However, I have my doubts about that flight happening. If not, I will reschedule for some time next week. If it does happen, I will look forward to meeting you!

Are you on the 5:12 Frontier flight?

Of course they'll put me on another flight if they can but...

of course I got a real cheap "package" from Travelocity and if I need to change it, it will cost nearly $250. Sniff...

Guess I'd better get on the phone to Dr. K's office to see about later appointments and such.

What a mess.

Yep, that is the flight! I rescheduled my fill for tomorrow, not today. But supposedly the worst of the snow is hitting Denver tomorrow...

If they cancel the 5:12 flight you should be able to get a full refund right? Or re-booked on another flight at no charge.

I checked and the flights next week are the cheapest I have ever seen - $97 round trip including taxes. So if I have to do it next week I will get a refund and buy a new ticket.

The really lame thing is United did not cancel ANY flights. Neither did USAir. All the flights scheduled for early afternoon are going out. Hopefully we will get to go!

Well crap....

Dr. K's office is canceling office hours tomorrow.

Whether the flight goes tonight or not is immaterial.

:(

Gen... for whatever reason this is just flummoxing me.

So now I pray they cancel my flight  and then I should be able to reschedule for next week.

That sucks! Great, my Dr. will probably cancel office hours as well. Then we will both be out of luck! At this point I hope the flight is cancelled too. Very annoying.

I just saw the flight was "delayed" until 5:59 pm. Hmmmmm...

Do you have to cancel either way? Could you still go and leave on Friday maybe?

I have a class tomorrow night at 6:00 that I really shouldn't miss. (I'm already scheduled to miss one and supposedly we can't miss any... they will have a make-up day. It's a fire science class... Haz Mat Ops... why am I taking this?).

Since I got the flight through Travelocity, I can't change it unless the airline cancels. If I stay an extra day, my package will cost me $100s in change fees (at least that's what Linda in India said).

First, sorry to everyone who has to see this back and forth about our flights! This is an easy way to communicate.

They just put the flight "on time" again, leaving at 5:12. Hope to see you there if you can make it!

But I don't have a fill appointment to go to.... waaaaahhhhh....

All I can say is that Denver better get 24 inches of snow tomorrow since the office is closed.

Last post, I promise.

I just got the call that Dr Brown's office is closed tomorrow too so my appt. was cancelled. CRAP. That is going to be a ton of money in change fees. Guess I will go early next week.

There better be 24 inches of snow in Denver! Wimps! They really can't handle snow up there.

Oh yea. Since I've been on the hormones, I want to eat eat eat. I am full and cannot eat another thing and I am hungry. This can go on for a couple days at a time. This is different from the famous "head hunger" we are always on about. It's almost like a drive. Then it's gone. I try to drink more or give serious thought to getting a chew toy.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
