My Mom told me today that she really doesn't want me to have the surgery. Her reason is that according to what she's learned most people regain the weight so it just doesn't seem like the surgery would be worth ruining my life for. She also said it was my body my choice. She also said she knew people who had bypass and were just as sure as I am that they could change their lifestyle regain all the weight they lost. I tried to explain everything but just kind of ended with I just don't want to die before I can see my kids grow-up. I'm so heartbroken right now. She also brought up all the doubts I struggle with especially about failure. I want so bad not to be the fat girl anymore. I still am going forward with all the pre-op prep and the surgery in August I just wish my Mom was okay with it.

Good luck bitsy. Like your mom said its your life. Its nice to have support but it doesn't have to be from your folks. Not everyone understands and they don't have to. I got lucky and everyone in my life was super supportive but I would have done it regardless Work the steps and love yourself and you will be successful The big thing is not to fall into that trap of getting a year out and saying oh I can slip this bad thing in. I look at it like a credit account. I took out all of my allotment of food on the front end now I only get rations from hear on out. I'm good with that. But back to your post, just keep your head up and surround your self with the people that do get what you are going through.

Good luck!

I was worried about telling my mom for this same reason. I didn't want her not to approve. Luckily she thought it was a good thing. She was more concerned about my health risk of becoming more overweight as the years go by. And she said she would rather me do it now while I am still healthy so my healing would be better with less complications. We all have the fear of failing. But if we don't at least try we already failed. Hopefully after you have the surgery she will be a good support for you and help you threw those tough times so you wont fail. This surgery isn't the cure but its a great tool to help us in the right direction. I wish you the best of luck.

It sounds like ur mom had concerns but this is ur choice and for me this choice had been the best choice ever. Yes it is always going to take hard work and eating healthy but it's better than dying or being obese. I love the healthy benefits of this and being able to strut my stuff when with my spouse. ;)

BTW, I haven't heard or seen anyone with VSG who has regained ALL of their weight. A few pounds, yes, but I, honestly, with the sleeve don't know if it would be possible to ever eat as much or gain all if it back. I say do what your heart And soul says do. Your Mom is your Mom. We worry. It's our job. :). She will be okay with it if you are positive it's for you. Good luck

Thank you so much everyone. There is no doubt in my mind that this surgery is the right thing for me. My Dad passed away at over 400lbs last January and I know that if I continue the lifestyle I have been living it won't be long before I'm in that same boat and I just can't bear that thought. I want to enjoy my life and my kids. I am so glad I found this site, it's nice to feel supported and know I have a place to come and vent and share.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
