Real Sugar vs Sugar Substitute

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all!!!! So I purchased some cook books and lots of them call to replace sugar with sugar substitute. So Houston we have a problem! I don't like ANY sugar substitute I've tried and I've read a study that sugar substitutes make you hungry and are potentially a link to some cancers. Any one still use regular sugar if not what are some alternatives you do use?

Maybe you are right about the hunger thing and artificial sweeteners...

I use mostly Splenda to sweeten my coffee. Will have regular sugar in certain things, but try and minimize it. For example, my Protein bars have 2 g sugar for the real chocolate they are dipped in ( nu go slim bars).

I have also tried Stevia with success. It tastes better than Splenda, but a little harder to find and costs little more. One thing about Stevia that I can appreciate is It is twice as efficient as Splenda. Only 1/2 amount is needed for coffee when compared to Splenda.

Also there are some articles that say Splenda is made in a lab where Stevia is natural. Not sure if the stories that Splenda originally was derived from rat poison R&D are true or just marketing hype by anti-Splenda agenda.

I buy my stevia in a huge bag at Walmart. It's worth in in my opinion. Refined sugar or artificial sweetner isn't good at all

I use liquid Splenda the chemicals in Splenda are used to make it into a dry form that also has hidden carbs the liquid tastes better and it comes in a tiny bottle I can take with me. I have also heard of a sweetener called whey low I'm thinking about trying it guarantees you will like the taste

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
