Clots are no fun. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

CT scan and blood draw were negative for blood clot. I asked him about a barium swallow and he looked confused and said he would call over to radiology and ask about it. This hospital has no bariatric program so I fear if it is a leak in in the wrong place to get it diagnosed.

I've never been to a hospital that wasn't equip to o barium swallows.. And I've been to several that weren't part of a bariatric program. Hopefully yours is equip. Good luck and glad the clot was ruled out.

They have a doctor from a (somewhat) nearby hospital on his way here to do the barium swallow. The ER doc here feels pretty confident it isn't a leak because he said he could see part of my abdomen in the CT scan he did and didn't see any pockets of fluids, and the fact that I don't have severe pain in my abdomen. I figure better safe than sorry. I'm wondering if maybe it was some sort of dumping syndrome? I've had those shakes lots of times before but maybe I drank it too fast? Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Pepperpaul,

The same thing happend to me a few weeks after sugery, when I thought I was getting better. Anyways, it hurt so much that I thought is was my appendix. I went to the doctor, he checked me out and it turned out and said it was nothing. So, I just toughed it out. Im sure you will be fine too!

Well they just did a barium swallow and didn't find a leak. They are discharging me. I'm hoping its just an isolated incident! I was sure glad to hear they didn't find a leak or a blood clot though! Trip to Arizona is still on for now. That's great news because I wasn't looking forward to telling my 8 and 10 year old girls that daddy ruined spring break.

Thanks everyone for the support. It was pretty unnerving but I'm glad it turned out to not be something serious. My big incision hurts a lot today, more than it has since surgery. I'm thinking I've been overdoing the walking this last week, as I've been walking 2-4 miles per day. I'll take the next couple days off since we hit the Grand Canyon on Tuesday and I'm sure ill be doing a lot of waking there. As a side note, I'm down 35 pounds since starting the pre-op diet on February 25th!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
