Things to buy for post-op

Recommended Posts

Hey all, so my surgery is this Tuesday. Since it's already the weekend here in Dubai, I'm planning to go buy the stuff I need for the 2 week period after surgery. So - my list so far includes Protein powder/s or shakes, firming creams (not sure about the brand yet), and ummmm that's it.

Help?

I found that my tastes changed and kept changing early on. I'd recommend not buying too much of any particular type of anything. Early on the flavour or texture might put you off. So I'd say get a good variety of liquids that you might like. Once you know what you like you can always stock up.

Good luck!

I was just sleeved yesterday and my life saver was Ludens Kiwi strawberry Moisture Drop. They are shaped and packaged just like Ludens Cherry cough drops. Def recommend them, as the keep your mouth moist.

Also used carmex. I heard a heating pad is great for gas pain but I havent used mine yet.

Thank you so much guys! I went to a couple of pharmacies here and it seems that they've never heard of Gas X strips. Will definitely check out the mouth moisturizing drops. If you do think of anything else though, please do let me know :) the surgery date is getting closer and closer and I'm getting more nervous by the second!

I agree with something for your lips! Mine were so dry and chapped! The heating pad is a great idea if you have one. I only used one in the hospital and they provided it. Didnt use it once I was discharged. Didnt use gas x strips, just walked a lot after and it helped a lot! My first week I was only allowed Water, chicken broth and sugar free Jello. After that I could have food and it's true, your tastes change a lot! Be prepared to have to go shopping. You will do great! Don't be nervous, be excited! Good luck!

Lips moisturizer! Will add that to the list. My doctor didn't talk to me yet about my post op diet but he told me that I will start off being in liquids. I think he'll talk me through it just before or after my surgery. Ahh so many mixed feelings!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
