Jp Drain...Worst.Thing.Ever?

Recommended Posts

So I'm 6 days out and all is fine and dandy EXCEPT for my JP drain....the stitches poke when I move certain ways, I can only sleep on my back(so I don't sleep through the night) and I can't leave the house because this thing doesn't hide well.... Is anyone else hating their drain?!

Most people I heard didnt even have one, so why do some doctors choose to use one while others don't?

Phew... I just needed to get that off my chest!

Did not have one? Maybe it has to do with beginning weight. But I weighed 260 morning of surgery.

That my dear, sounds like it sucks! Yeah some doctors don't use them at all.. Some like mine only keeps it in while your in the hospital (thank god) and some doctors make people go home with them! Hang in there!

As for why?

There really isn't a standard procedure that they all follow...

I had one for SIX WEEKS with my mastectomies. SIX whole weeks! It was pure evil. It's the only thing I am dreading about getting my sleeve.

Yes they are awful! Mine was on a nerve and it was excruciating, but they took it out when I was released from the hospital. I hope you get yours out soon!

Aweful! I was so happy when I got it out. I think mine too, was hitting a nerve becacuse I had awful pains that disappeared when it was take out. Now I just get creeped out by the gaping whole that is there from it. That is slowly closing though.

Thankfully mine comes out tomorrow... But do they stitch the hole up or glue it? I'm totally squeamish and dreading it coming out... Was it painful?

My doctor didn't stitch or glue. Band aid only. When I changed it last night, I looked at it and got kind of creeped out. They said it would be fine. I didn't think it was painful. Just kinda felt weird. It was funny because I told the nurse I was nervous about it and she just started talking to me and all the sudden I could feel this weird sensation and I said "oh!" and that was it. Real fast.

Mine wasn't stitched or glued either. Just a hole! I put some butterfly closures in it to keep it in a tight line so wouldn't have a round scar.

I hear ya I was sleeved on Monday and probably won't come out till my next dr appt on the 4th. It sucks but it shows you that your dr is being very

thorough and making sure you don't have any leaks. I took mine to Walmart today I just pinned it to my waistband wore a big tshirt made sure it was covered.

I had mine for a day and a half.. Can't imagine longer! Doesn't hurt during removal, but it's an unexplainable weirdest feeling ever! No stitch or glue just an uggy hole that looks like its the grand canyon, but heals like it was never there.. Another weird

They only kept mine in while in the hospital. It felt really WEIRD when they pulled it out! All they did was put a piece of gauze and some adhesive tape over it, told me to change it daily and if the drainage turned a strange color or started to smell funky, call them. It did take a while to heal - it seemed to stay red around the edges, and I thought it might be getting infected. Finally I started putting a little bit of bacitracin ointment on it and leaving the gauze off, and it healed up fairly quickly then.

I must be the lucky one cause mine has a stitch holding it in place!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
