New here! Any low BMIers?

Recommended Posts

I will. I plan to write a detailed account of it all. When I first started looking into this I dug all over looking for stories and info. I'll do that for others. And afterwards at the loss.

Hi Sherri3388!

I am scheduling my surgery for the end of May. So excited and I'm glad I found other low BMIers. My BMI is 33 and I'm 5'5". I talked to my mom about my surgery but she was against it and told me I just need to do it the natural way. So I haven't mentioned it again to her. My Husband would rather I do it the natural way but will support me either way. Looking forward togetting it done! I would love to hear how your surgery went!!

My partner hasn't really been supportive either. My mom has been somewhat supportive because she's seen me struggle my whole life, but since I'm not currently as big as I have been in the past, they think I'm crazy for doing this. They say 'why can't you just eat normally, and you'll lose the weight.' I don't want to end up waiting until I am 40+ BMI for them to see the value of surgery.

I totally agree Danelle235. I don't want to wait until I'm any heavier. It sucks being heavy as it is. I told two co-workers that I am pretty close with and they both told me that I didn't need it and that I needed to just do it the natural way. They even offered to start walking with me at lunch. I said ok to the walking part and we set up a location to walk. We still haven't walked to this date......... Surgery here I come! I'm looking forward to loosing weight and starting a new eating lifestyle.

I was sleeved 3/11. My BMI was 31. I had been on BP medication for 10 years, was on cholesterol meds, fatty liver, painful knees and sleep apnea. Since surgery I have decreased my BP med, I was taken off Crestor, I have just started exercising again. Lost 20 pounds. Things definitely looking up!

I was sleeved march 29 with a BMI of 32. When I started my preop diet at 206 (I'm 5'5") and was 189 the day of surgery.

I started my preop diet 3 weeks before my surgery date, not because I had to, but just because I was sick of eating junk. I gained 9 pounds in the hospital which took a week and a half to lose Now I'm 14 days out and at 181 and BMI of 30. That's a 25 pound loss in 5 weeks with a low BMI!

I'm still on full liquids but am going to try eggs in a couple of days. I'm getting 70gm of Protein a day...mostly shakes witha little Greek yogurt and a few saltines.

This is the best thing I've ever done for myself! Day 2 was the hardest, and I stayed on sublingual Toradol for 5 days. My only complaint is a horrible itchy reaction to the tegaderm.

You'll be fine!

Every now and again the Low BMIers come out of the closet and it's great to see so many of us still making this decision for our long-term health, no matter what other people think. I, like so many of you, have lost and gained the same 50 lbs so many times, it might as well be 150 lbs for how it has plagued me. I also have auto immune stuff going on now, my hips and joints ache all the time, and I just can't move around to keep up with my young kids and my job (I'm a Kindergarten teacher). My surgery is July8th and I can't wait! I've been trying to eat better in preparation and have lost 2 lbs so my BMI is now 31, but it can swing up to 33 in a heartbeat! It's really reassuring to see the great results other lower BMIers are having... lead on!

What exactly is considered a low BMI? I currently have a BMI of 30, and I'm scheduled for surgery May 15th. Does anyone else have a BMI of 30? What were your results like?

Hi!

I am low BMI'er. When I first went to my surgeon I was 33.1 BMI. My surgery date is this Tuesday, April 16. After 10 days of the pre-op diet, my BMI this morning is 30.6. I am having the surgery because I have tried many different ways to lose weight and it has only gone up over the years. Now that I am menopausal, I don't think I could bring it back down any other way. I am fortunate that I do not have many obesity-related health problems (only reflux) yet, but I am having the surgery to ensure that I don't develop them. My family is chock full of heart disease, so I know being obese is not a smart place to be with my genetics.

I was pretty nervous about the upcoming surgery last week - wondering if this was the right thing to do - but I have become surprisingly calm this weekend. I seem to be ready for this new phase of my life.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
