Disappointed :(

Recommended Posts

Well, today was supposed to be the day. They had to abort the surgery due to an enlarged liver. The doc was unable to safely do the procedure. I am very disappointed, but I know it was for my safety. I'm sore, but am cleared to resume normal activities. I meet with the doc next week to discuss options. He feels that is I lose some more weight, he should be able to do the surgery around June.

And I'm hoping this setback is only temporary.

I am so sorry to hear this. Did the doc put you on a pre-op diet and were you able to stay on it? I see so many different diets here that the docs require, and I am just curious what you were on.

Yes I was on liquids for two weeks. Other than a couple bowls of Soup during that time, I followed the plan.

Hopefully your doc will have a plan that will be helpful. I am so sorry for now, but don't lose faith.

My liver was extremely large room my surgeon 5 hours to do surgery. He said I would of died soon of I had not had this done. I had no idea I had such a bad liver expect I did have problems but they never thought it was my liver. I am so happy my surgeon worked hard and got it done but I had an extremely hard recovery spending a week in the hospital praying for death ... That is how miserable I was. The doctor came out and told my mom how lucky I was.

*HUGS* I am so sorry! I know psychologically it hurts but had something gone wrong - it could be worse. He'll do it when it's safe for you!

Thanks all! The doc wants me to lose more weight, about 35 lbs. That would put me right about 300, with a BMI of 50. At that stage he feels the procedure should be a go! I'm having some good weeks, some not so good as fabr as weight lose goes! Hopefully by early June we can do the procedure!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
