cross fit and running

I have a pair of Nike zoom running shoes that have really held up. Been running on them an average of 24 miles a week from Dec 15 2012, and according to a running store clerk, the shoes still have 100 miles left on them whoo who!! It looks like I will get about 5.5 months or about 450 miles out of them. Good on the wallet.

Question for you my friend, if you're Chi-running then you are landing more on your forefoot. The cushioning that supposedly breaks down in a running shoe is in the heel. So since you're not really using that cushioning, it stands to reason that it won't break down, and even if it did you're not using it. Thoughts?

Oh and might I add that I have been having a small TMI moment in these quests to better my running. Sometimes during the run I feel the need to take a dump (sorry for the guttural description). I wish this did not happen and hope some others have a solution. I do try and take care of daily BM hours before running. However, nature calls again during the run. Maybe it is the pre workout drink? Don't know.

This is not unusual at all. My brother-in-law is an avid runner, and he knows the location of every bathroom along his routes... :D

Yup, my shoe looks almost new on the heel, especially since I run on the treadmill. I think recently I have been just landing solid in middle/front part of the shoe. Feels pretty natural to me. No issues with my shoe or feet yet and I run 18-20 miles a week on average.

When I went to the Chi-running clinic, the main instructor was wearing Skechers Gobionics. They are a new Skechers running shoe. He passed them around the class to look at, they truly are a different sort of shoe. No arch support, no heel lift, but they do have some cushioning. The sole is partioned like a waffle, so it is extremely flexible and all parts of the foot can move independently of each other....unlike a shoe with stiffer, 1 piece soles. I bought a pair to see if I'd like them for really long runs. So far the jury is still out on them for me, but they do what they claim to do, which is feel like minimalist shoes but with some cushioning. You might like them.

Looked at the men's version on Amazon. There are many good reviews. Perhaps it will be my next running shoe. Let us know if you suddenly overwhelmingly find a reason to like them. As I am already a mid foot / front foot runner, these do sound like a good match. I think my current running shoe might make it through the summer.

Here's a shot of them. You can see how flexible they are. Can't do that with most running shoes.

How are they feeling on your runs?

Very light. After several miles I start to feel the cushion but not in a positive way. It's like I'm not used to the cushion being there so it gets to be like walking on a mattress. Maybe just my imagination. Still a game time decision but I was planning on wearing these on my half. Maybe not. I'll wear them again today and see how it goes.

But for someone who wants a little cushion though, these would be a great choice.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
