Thinking....I see the end to my Dairy-Free Protein Woes (DFPWs) in the distance

Recommended Posts

Through trial and error, I hope I've experiences the last of my last 30 minute bathroom runs (pun intended)

Lactose Intolerance is no laughing matter. What was mildly inconvenient pre-op became a post-op nightmare for me. However, there is a glimmer of light at the end of my DFPW tunnel. I tried a number of Protein powders once I realized that whey Protein was not my friend. Although, I had no difficulty at all with the GNC Pro Performance Amplified Whey Protein powder pre op, it turned my life upside down post op to the point that my surgeon has me going for labs to rule out more serious issues.

I'm having success with:

Jay Robb Egg White Protein in vanilla and chocolate.(strawberry isn't very good) I use either Water or unsweetened Coconut, Almond and Chia Drink (Dream Blends) 165 cal, 5 carbs, 25 g protein (slightly lower with water)

Thanks to Whole Foods, I got to sample before purchasing Vega One Vanilla Chai and chocolate aIl-in-one nutritional shake. The Vanilla Chai is good with water but I'm gonna use the Dream Blends with it later today. The chocolate I sampled was made with Coconut milk and it was also tolerable. The Vega w/ Dream Blends 182 cal 12 carbs, 15g protein.

Still using Isopure Zero Carb mixed with G2 or Powerade Zero to get in more protein and fluids during the day.

Fingers Crossed!

Have you tried the Mootopia milk? You can only get it at HEB. It's lactose free. I learned about it in my preop nutrition class. No stomach issues since I started drinking it. I was sleeved March 7th.

Hello, new to this site. Sleeved Jan 24th. 5'5, 210. Lost 21 lbs first 21 days and have been in a stall since then. I also experienced major lactose intolerance post op. 7 weeks out now and am much better. Can eat cheese again thankfully!

I read somewhere to try taking lactaid before drinking the whey Protein Shakes (I have an intolerance to whey as well) so just bought some today and I'll see if it helps.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
