May 2013 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Hello everyone, I wanted to see how many May 2013 sleevers there are! :D What are you doing at this point to prepare for surgery? What are your stats?

I am scheduled for May 15th. So excited, but nervous!! I am currently 260 and my highest was 268 in February. I plan to get down to at least 250 before the two week Protein diet prior to my surgery. My goal weight is 150 which I haven't been at in about 7 years! I started my journey in January of this year. I was fortunate enough that my insurance approved me without requiring a 6 month monitored diet. I have a good amount of support, didn't start off that way though. First responses were "you're taking the easy way out", so I took them to information seminars which completely changed their views (whew!). I am extremely excited for the surgery because it's a new me. I can completely change my life habits around and start feeling better about myself physically and mentally. When I think back, I've realized my weight has kept me from making friends, going in public, and just plain living life!

I would love to hear all of your stories thus far and how your journey to getting sleeved has been! :D

Thanks!!

- Brooke

In my experience the pre-op diet helped prepare for after the surgery. It's all about replacing habits with new habits. My pre op was Protein shakes and protein bars and one small dinner a day.

For me ive been eating 1200 calories per day for a few years now. ..anything under makes me too hungry but after surgery ill feel full quicker. I dont think anyone can fully prepare. Me? I'm having what they call a food funeral...I'm not having crazy amounts of food (never did) and still keeping the calories pretty low but I'm had Pasta last night and a donut the other day.

I only have to do one day of liquids prior to surgery. And since surgery is tomorrow, and I have my pre-ops today (they want those done while fasting), that will be today!

I'm mostly looking forward to getting my band removed. The sleeve is sort of secondary to that. I'm still only 25lbs over my original gaol, so feel a bit conflicted about the sleeve. I know that, without it, my weight will increase drastically, but for me, it's more preventative. Although I AM looking forward to having a new goal weight. :)

I have my pre op Tuesday. Anybody tell me roughly how long after this my actual op will be. Also what to expect Tuesday? Many thanks x

I didn't get my pre op appt until after we made the surgery date. I met with my surgeon on the 30th of april and we scheduled the surgery for may 23rd..then the hospital called me to schedule my pre op, which is tomorrow. I was told I was meeting with an anestesiologist and doing an ekg

I've met the surgeon and also had blood tests. On my letter tellin me about pre op tomorro it states the appointment can last upto 3hours. Everyone in this forum seems to be in the know about there surgery date. Who knows. Hopefully I'll know more after tomorrow. Thanks for getting back to me.

My pre op appoinment was about three hours long. And I met with my nutritionist and then the nurse and then my surgeon. They explain you everything thatvis goi ng to happen to you and they gave you prescriptions for the medicine after surgery such as urso that you have to start taking a month after surgery. Hope thos helps.

I just learned that I will have surgery May! I saw the surgeon today expecting to be told July, but was told that I could only have it at the end of September! i panicked because I have mobility problems and need this to happen soon. I remembered that i had a trump card (really good private insuance) and suddenly his tune changed. He then said "I cant next week, but am free the following week." I'm stoked. I'll be a May sleever!!!

Don't forget me I am tomorrow as well.

Hello all, I am going to blog my entire experience at Star Medica when I feel up to the length of the story it will turn out to be... but for now I have to say, anyone that is considering this hospital or Dr. Rodriguez, DO NOT HESITATE!! I have never, I mean NEVER had such amazing medical care in my entire life!! I feel wonderful today, (3 days out) having zero problems getting in 60 gms of protien via Isopure, a couple of gatorades, and have had about a cup of beef broth as well. If it were not for the fact that I have to swallow slowly, pace myself and feel a little pinching pull around my drain sight, I would not even beleive I have had surgery at all.

I simply cannot say enough about this hospital, the staff, my surgeon, and my experiance. I am so impressed that once I reach my goal weight, I have every intention of returning to Juarez to see if I can get Dr. Rod, and Dr. Elmo to accept an offer of a dinner out on me. :)

I have my surgery set for the 23rd hope all goes well I am so nervous and really hope this will work for me. This past year I've gained 80 lbs and it's been so upsetting.

My surgery is set for May 30! I am a little nervous. Everything seems to be falling into place;-) prayers please;-)

Here's a list! If you're not on the list' date=' just copy/paste it in your reply and add yourself! I'm scheduled for May 14th! Maybe we can each check in after our surgery.

all the best to the newly joined May sleevers...the surgery itself went better than I expected, and I am thankful most of my issues post-op last week were emotional and not physical...thoughts and prayers are with you all!
