I was cleared yesterday to progress to the "Soft food" stage. So exciting! I'm just wondering what is the serving size you eat? I had a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes and gravy for lunch and that went fine. For dinner I tried cream of broccoli Soup pureed but 1/4 of it didn't seem like a lot because it was just liquid. Does the serving size matter according to what you're eating? Any thoughts?

It depends on how dense the food is as well.. Soup is going to seem to fill you less then a chicken breast... Eatting a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes will definately fill you more then the 1/4 cup of soup. Once you move on to solids it will seem like you get sull MUCH faster... I can't even eat 3oz of chicken. I had a grilled chicken breast the other night for dinner... My dinner litterally consisted of: 2 peices of THIN asparagus, a forkful of mashed potatoes and 3 cut up peices from my chicken breast (maybe 1/4 of the small breast fillet) I notice when I eat soup for lunch I can eat much more, even if I eat a chili for lunch I can eat much more then a more dense food...

Hope that helps, I didnt mean to ramble on and on...

I was told not to "weigh" Soup since its a liquid. When I do soft food and regular foods I will have to weigh and measure.

I always measured soup... When you drink/esat the Soup you wont feel much restriction so I always measured it... Volume not weight... I was told by my Nut and Dr that everything should be measured by volume not weight... Think of it this way... A 5lb bowling ball takes up ALOT less room then 5 lbs of feathers... The weight is the same but the volume is VERY different

KanesMom

quick answer is Yes - size does matter!!!! as time passes mainly, you always need to measure your food amounts

you don't need to "weigh" liquids - at your early stage you should keep track how many liquids you intake, so you are making sure you are getting enough Fluid in

mashed potatoes in soft stage 1/4 cup - (hold the gravy maybe :) ) 1/4 cup sounds fine, don't really remember, listen to your body - your tummy probably won't "allow' you to eat much

and of course always chew, put utensil down, wait, then start up again when you eat - very slow progression

actually, you must/should always keep tab on liquids (solids too - maybe use MFP)

you need to get 64 oz of water/liquids in daily - at first it might be hard - but it is necessary, and eventually, i'm confident you will succeed :)

not sure i answered your ?, but always ok to get more info (even if you might already know it) ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
