Hopefully I will get Lap Band soon, but scared!

Recommended Posts

Hello All:

I am new to this site...I have actually been researching the Lap Band and came across this site. I go to the weight loss educational meeting on November 30, 2006 am and VERY nervous, because from there, I will be contacted to get the ball rolling to the Lap Band process. I wanted it about 4-5 months ago, but my insuranse did not cover it. Now for 2007 it does. I refuse to get the gastric and hope this is a better/safer procedure. I am very scared..reading all the complications those have had with not losing weight, or the port flipping, and other scary stuff. I would hate to have this all done for nothing, and then nothing but bad turn out of it. I am 280 pounds, 5'8" and would like to be down to 165 or 155 at lowest...not sure it that will happen. It's scary thinking of surgery and having something put into my body, but I have to do something...I am to the point I dont want to go in public...so neededless to say, I am ready to start a new journey, just hope this all works out for me. If I have this done, it will be in January 2007.

Nice to meet you all, I look forward to being part of your family

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer ,

I too have been doing my research on the lap band and Im so excited at the prospect of beigng healthy and fit into a size 9/10 (hopefully)

I'm hoping my insurance will pay for it .. but not too sure .. my BMI is not quite 40 I weigh 235 , but it fluctuates so much from week to week. Depending on if Im starving myself or not.

Good luck with your journey !

by the way I too am scared also about doing this .. more so than I was when I had my brest reduction surgery .

But I keep telling myslef this is to help change my life for the better .

Welcome Jennifer...

Sounds like you have come to the right place...we are a very supportive community in the unlikely event that anything bad would happen we are here for YOU! Having said that...many of us here at LBT have a very successful and nonproblematic lapband experience so you probably will too! I look forward to hearing of your progress. My door is always open to anybody so if you want some encouragement or just to chat...send me a PM or Email...

I think the best answer for me is that the benefits far outweigh the risk.

With anything there are risks. I am very happy with my lapband. Wish I have lost a little more in 6 months but overall I am happy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
