I'm about two weeks post op, and I feel like I'm messing up my sleeve. I was told once I left the hospital to be on full liquids. I eat/drink almost all day long, and don't really feel full. Could I have stretched my pouch out this soon?? Am I doing something wrong I usually wait 30 minutes in between drinking and eating. I just ate some chicken and potatoes, which hurt my stomach a little but not as significantly as I thought it would... I've only lost 10 lbs in this last week as well. Please can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

If you've been told to stay on liquids why are you eating chicken?

I was told that after two weeks I could try to eat different things as far as Protein and soft foods to see what sits well with me, but I feel like it's too soon, and I also feel like my weight loss is not where it should be. I feel like I'm in the dark. The only restrictions they have me was to restrict fruits and veggies until after 3-4 weeks post op.

Week 1 Clear Liquids,

weeks 2 and 3 full liquids(milk skim 1%,Protein shakes, yogurt drink, juice low sugar, flavored Water etc)

week 4 soft foods( cottage cheese, apple sauce, yogurt, boiled eggs ect)

after that you can eat everything in 4 oz measurements. stop when you are full, eat slowly , chew like you have never chewed before LOL this is what my doc ordered. I do agree its too early to eat chicken and potatoes at 2 weeks. I followed this and lost 24 pounds the first month. Dont beat your self up about it start fresh tomorrow :)

I can post the complete list for you if you like he gave me a book that he wrote about the sleeve :)

Thank you so much! I will follow this schedule. It seems more logical. The only reason I didn't question my doc is because my brother had the same procedure, and lost 30 lbs in the first month. Thanks for the words of advice, I will definitely start fresh tomorrow! You have given me some peace of mind for the evening. <3

I was allowed to eat chicken after one week. My dr didn't do a mushies/soft food stage, she wants her patients to start eating right away and to make sure we chew everything up very well first. I can only eat about 1-2 oz of chicken tho because its so dense and I chew it really well. The only thing I'm restricted from for the first 6 months is bread, Pasta, rice and white potatoes. :)

That sounds like my dr's instructions. I just hope I didn't stretch my sleeve out, because as long as tomorrow is a new day I can start fresh, but i just feel like ill never lose the weight even after putting myself through surgery.

I know how you feel. I find myself thinking the same thing, then I get on the scale and I'm shocked! I can't believe it's working! Lol! And you really really have to work at stretching your sleeve. One night of you feeling bad isn't going to do that. Our sleeves are made from the "nonstretchy" part of the stomach. You would have to eat like you did for a year to stretch it and who wants to feel like that all the time? At least that's what my dr said about stretching the sleeve. You will lose weight, just trust the process! :)

I had only lost 8.5lbs in the first 2 weeks so don't get discouraged. My doc has me on 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft. I'm 3 weeks out and don't even want to try chicken yet, I've had it once pureed and it didn't go down well. Just keep going through the motions you will lose. Pretty sure you can't stretch your stomach out that soon. Good luck.

10lbs in one week is good. You can't compare your loss to someone else. Men typically lose faster then women too.

I agree that two weeks is too soon to try chicken. I'm two weeks as well and am drinking Protein, refried Beans, cottage cheese, sf pudding, Greek yogurt, and lots of Water. Measure out 2oz of food and stop after. It is no longer about eating to get full. If you can't finish the 2oz, no need to force it.

Also the sleeve can't be stretched. That portion was removed. That's where the restriction comes from. Another thing that helps is to track your food on something like my fitness pal. That way you know exactly how much you are getting.

Thank you all for the great advice! I think being home for these last two weeks has not helped either. I go back to work tomorrow (thank god because I was getting stir crazy) so hopefully that will also keep me from thinking about it constantly. No more chicken for me. I think I will stay on full liquids for another week before going to puréed/ soft foods.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
