Not fat enough? This is for Low BMI'ers

Recommended Posts

That's what they said to me that I don't look that big. But I'm 5' feet tall and 238 with a bmi of 45. Just cuz we don't look that big dosent mean we don't have any medical problems. Don't let anybody tell you what you need to do. I've learned that I have to live in this body and with pain in my feet and can't walk for a long period of time. You take care of you that's all that matters :) good luck on your journey wish you the best and all happiness!!

I diffused the situation by simply saying "I really appreciate your concern for my well-being.I'm an adult and have made a medically-endorsed, researched and educated decision regarding my health and I hope that you support me in my decision and I Can count on you during my journey." Most people are ultimately sensitive , but understandably leary @ procedures that may be foreign. Use this opportunity to educate.

My bmi is 32 I'm 5'6" and I knew ppl were gonna think I don't need this or it's an easy way out. So I only told a select few of my very close family and friends. I'm going to Mexico and paying ALOT of $$ for this. I made the decision for me and nobody else.

You know and will do what's best for you, I tell people when you walk a mile in my shoes then you can give your opinion. No one but us know the struggle, pain of carrying this excess weight for so long. Screw what people think, I only told a very select few the ones who I knew would support me the others will be in awe to see me lose so much weight and hopefully jump on the bandwagon of getting healthier.

I was told the same thing before surgery but now that I've lost the weight those same people are saying "Oh my goodness you look so good! You don't look like the same person!" so apparently I was big enough for the surgery. Lol

Hey Everyone. While I am a not a low BMI I have somewhat run int the same thing. My grandmother (who is paying for everything) told me if I got down to 200lbs I would look wonderful. But I just kind of looked at her and said but my Ideal weight is between 130 and 150. She then got very huffy and told me I would be too skinny if I weighed any less then 180. So I lied and told her I would only get down to 190... I think it's ridiculous for a woman who is so concerned about my health and longevity to then tell me not to get down to a healthy weight. My goal is 140 and we'll see how I look and feel.

Please don't let others get you down. You know you can lose weight with the help of a sleeve and your Doctor and Surgeon know it too or they wouldn't be recommending it. Even fat sleevers with BMI's like mine know not everyone has 250lbs to lose. Some people just need to lose 50 and you guys need help just as much as those of us who have more to lose.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
