We wont know if I am approved until the eve of surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to be sleeved on March 5, 2013. I contacted my surgeons coordinator today to find out the status of my approval because I am now on Day 7 of a 14 day liquid pre op diet and you know getting a little anxious :):(...to my dismay she told me that they may not know the approval status until this friday or the day before my scheduled surgery. My surgeon has told me not to concern myself about the approval because I am a prime candidate.

I have Aetna with a BMI 49.7 and pre-hypertenstion. i have completed all of my clearences and so far Aetna has paid for everything.

Should I be overwhelming myself with the thought that next Tuesday will come and go??

why in the world did they schedule it without approval? that sounds incredibly risky.

i'd call the insurance company and see what is going on. my surgeon wouldn't even discuss scheduling until we both had the letter in our hands.

I understand your concern. I too would be so stressed. I was told my chart is now with the insurance person at the MD office. She has a "stack" of charts she is working through doing pre-certs. My surgery won't be set up until they have the surgery pre-cert completed. I am now worring what if my insurance declines my surgery. I have met all their requirements. I can relate!!!

I keep asking myself the same thing why would I be scheduled without an approval? My surgeon is very confident that I will have no problem but I am a control freak and I would have much rathered receiving an approval letter before having a date.

What are the reprecussions of cancelling the day before if you still haven't heard? Do they charge you a fee? Like others, my Dr.'s office wouldn't even schedule me until they got a copy of my approval letter. If you do this prior to approval, are you willing to cash pay? I would call the insurance company directly to find out what stage it is in. You are always your best advocate, so go get 'em! Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
