Going to miss the most

I still drink diet A&W Rootbeer. I buy it in the liter bottles and take the cap off and let it go mostly flat before drinking it. Eventually you can eat everything you ate before if you choose, just not as much. I can eat 1 taco truck taco. I can eat 1 piece of pizza. Pretty much I can eat anything I did before, again just not as much. After 1 year you'll see, everything back to normal if you choose. So don't go thinking you'll NEVER eat or drink certain things. You can and will IF you choose.

I will not miss wearing black, feeling invisible, being envious of the skinny girls, seeing my profile in the mirror or feeling like I want to curl up and die every time I leave a dressing room at the mall.

Jacee, that made me tear up! I couldn't have said it any better!!

I am a bit lucky in that most of the things you need to avoid with the sleeve, you have to avoid with the band too, and I've been banded for the better part of a decade. I do think the one thing I am going to miss is chugging a drink. With the band I can still down a bunch of liquid... it will make me full in minutes, but not painful at all. I am not good about drinking throughout the day and end up crazy thirsty and downing half a bottle of Water in a drink or two! I am working on drinking throughout the day now so that it won't be such a transition and the more I stick to sipping regularly, the less I feel a need to chug later on! lol

Rather than thinking about whats loved and will be missed, maybe we could think of this as the opportunity to really get it right and leave behind those things that are really not healthy for us. I have major issues with some complex carbs, so as much as i would like to eat like a normal person and not diet once i have gotten down to goal, i may remain a carb addict and never be able to limit like a normal person. So for now, i am thrilled that i have broken my coffee addiction and will not start it up again, just because i can, and i am hoping i can limit carbs once i start maintenance, but that remains to be seen. I am however, not going to mourn getting rid of some of my unhealthy habits and waste time thinking about what i cannot have. My dreams are all about the blessings of the future.

I think I'm going to miss my morning Diet Coke more than anything else. I don't drink coffee, so Diet Coke has been my morning source of caffeine for years. I know the carbonation is a no-no post-op so I will weaning myself over the next 3 weeks or so, until I start my pre-op diet..

What do you think you'll miss the most, post-op?

I was the same way. I loved diet coke. But it's amazing after a few weeks - you won't miss it!!!

I will miss diet coke and sparkling Water. I'm already gluten free so going without starch won't be a big deal.

Don't even get me started on my sparkling Water. I might have a ceremony to say goodbye. I can't even wrap my brain around that yet. <sob>

Bee, I was gluten free for about a year, and I figure if we can do that, we can do anything!!!!! ;) That one is TOUGH!!!!

It was kind of hard at first, but I transitioned with some gf processed foods, like Cookies when I got cravings. I knew if I felt deprived I would binge, even though I feel like crap when I eat gluten. If anyone is interested in going gf, I'd be glad to help.

I'm going to miss eating whatever I want, whenever I want. I'm going to miss Chili's, Outback. S & S Cafeteria, Chick-fil-a, and all the other restaurants that have become a part of my daily routine.

That being said, I won't miss them enough to stay fat. I want to buckle my own freaking sandals. I want to go hiking with my hubby. I want my son not to make some passing comment about my weight and how I use to look. I want my hubby to be able to pick me up. I want to walk up the one flight of steps at my college without sounding like I ran a marathon. I want to walk like a person, not a penguin. I want to look down and see my panties. I want to have a waist again. I want to see my jawline. I want women to stop looking at my husband and then looking at me like they don't get it. Forget food. Life is too freaking short.

I was a big diet coke addict. It's been over 3 weeks since I've had one (when pre-op started). I didn't start missing until yesterday when they kept showing a diet Pepsi commercial every time I turned around! Wasn't into diet Pepsi but oh my! I'm like the poster from Florida with the high temperatures. I grew up in MS and LA. We had to have something cool. Had it for Breakfast, lunch, dinner and anytime in between! Definitely what I will miss the most! :)

I was a scarfer.. I LOVED to take huge bites and chew two or three times and swallow my food practically whole.. I found it more enjoyable that way. It was perversely satisfying for me to eat like this as opposed to small bites chewed 20 times...

My first week once I was allowed to eat food post op was pretty miserable taking those teeny tiny bites and chewing until nothing..

Now I'm 5 weeks out and I have reached a compromise. I take a whole spoon full (though now I eat from a teaspoon rather than from a big Soup spoon) and chew chew chew and swallow just a small portion of it at a time. So one tea spoon gives me three swallows of food. It satisfies my desire to have that "mouth full of food" sensation, without overwhelming my sleeve.

As for actual foods that I miss.. I miss citrus, vegetable juices and chia seeds! Can't have them for another week and these are the three items that I used to have EVERY DAY preop, and they're the LAST items that my diet allows to be added back in!

I'm wheat-free since the end of November and I've seen tremendous improvements in my health because of it even before I lost any weight. I took the approach that I wanted to remove wheat completely and greatly reduce all other Cereal grains... I don't do "substitutes" of potato starch, rice flour, etc because they are so processed and refined ... I just don't eat breads pastas or crackers. I've had a few corn tortilla chips post op, just because my diet advanced to that stage of being able to eat this texture and I wanted to see how they would be on my sleeve, but I just don't want to make it a habit.

Going wheat free is not the same as going gluten free.. although they are 95% similar. But Gluten free people can still eat items that contain parts of the wheat as long as it does not contain a trace of the gluten... an item can be marked "gluten free" and still have some wheat in it without having the gluten! On the other hand, wheat free people can eat gluten from other sources such as barley.

I'm with u kat.

I too love love love diet coke. But, its gotta go. I just can't stop myself pre-op 6 months out. Maybe when I'm closer like you I'll do better.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
