But, I just gotta ask, when everyone here says "gas" what are you referring to? Is is an inside tummy gas? A burpy from your mouth gas? A burpy from your behind kind of gas?

I'm going to be sleeved Monday 2/25, just wanting to know what to expect.

Ok, you can go back to your giggling now....

Thanks,

Carol

To do laparoscopic surgery they inflate your chest with gas to be able to see and work. That is the gas. It feels like pressure and pain. That being said I had no gas pain or pressure after my surgery.

Depends on the context. When i refer to the gas pain i had coming out of surgery....it was literally the gas within my body. when i say im having gas pains right after surgery.....it was pains that i could feel but couldnt release....now, when i say i have gas....i need to toot :)

In the context of VSG surgery, the gas you'll most likely experience immediately post-op (and for up to a week) is the result of the CO2 that the surgeon uses to inflate the area around the stomach and gall bladder. You feel pains in your tummy and chest and upper arms. Walking helps a lot, doing your incentive breathing with the plastic thingie they give you helps, Gas-X strips and chewables helped me; it's just one of the things to get through!

the only thing that will help with the CO2 left over in your abdominal cavity after surgery is movement. walk, walk, walk.

gas-x / mylanta gas etc will only help with intestinal gas - the burp / fart kind of gas, which you will likely experience in the first week or so.

Thanks a lot everyone, now I'll know what to expect. Bag's almost packed and we'll be out the door at 6.45 tomorrow morning. Wishing well to all to the 2/25 sleevers out there.

Good luck tomorrow! ...and dont worry about gas until you need to! You may be lucky like me and have none. I told the anethesiologist i had horrid issues with the inflating gas when i had my gall bladder out and asked if it was possible to do an extra super job removing as much this time as possible... And i had no issues at all, so maybe that helped. I also started with fluids, shakes, broth and tea as soon as it was served, walking every hour or so and the digestive system picked right back up. I had very small, familiar burps, and a few small windies meaning things were moving through, but nothing major and no gas pain of any kind! I returned all the unopened gasx and extra meds i bought after two weeks. Best wishes for an uneventful surgery and recovery!

Giggle at you???

Naw, you are only 3 weeks to the board - we don't laugh at NEWBIES til they are 3.5weeks

As far as gas is concerned - many people "from above" such as DanaMomto3, Melissa130, and moregoodtimes and most importantly "ME", :) never had to deal with the gas "situation"

sometimes i think too much time is spent by all, worrying about what "may" happen, whether it be gas or something else

take it as "it" comes

follow all the rules and do your best

certain things like gas (and maybe other stuff, there is nothing you can do to change the fact - whats gonna happen - happens

take care

good luck tomorrow with WLS

speedy recovery :)

I too did not have gas pains but the gas came out. I remember burping waking up in the recovery room. Burping was my way of expelling it, thank God!!

Well wishes for your surgery and successful weight loss!!

Thanks to all. This has been such a trying week, with being approved only on Thursday to other things. This board has truly been a God send to me, good luck to all sleevers in the final week in February. Looking forward to seeing you all on the other side, losers bench, that is...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
