I know I have seen this thread before, but I can't seem to find it. I am having surgery on Monday, and need to go buy my liquids. I was hoping to get some lists of good things to buy for the first few weeks of surgery.

Thank you!

some suggestions would be to buy sugar free Popsicles, a sippie cup, broth, cream Soups, bottled Water, food scale, Protein shakes, unflavored Protein powder, some comfortable panties and loose fitting knit pants (around the waist), some Chapstick in case your lips are very dry after surgery, your chewable Vitamins and the B12 your surgeon or NUT advises.

I loved cold Myoplex Lite (chocolate fudge flavor) for my Protein shake...tastes like chocolate milk. I also enjoyed Rachael Ray's beef or chicken stock warmed in the microwave and warm Chinese Egg Drop Soup with the egg part strained out of it the first couple of weeks. I also strained the noodles out of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup and drank the warm broth. GNC has caramel and chocolate chewable calcium citrate that is really good. It is called "be-balanced".

You won't need a ton of things that most people don't already have. before surgery I purchased a mid-grade digital food scale and for me, that was THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. If you buy one non-food item for surgery, it should probably be a scale and you don't even need a fancy one. It should not run you more than 20 or 25 dollars. The more expensive ones usually just have a higher weight capacity and since we are weight loss surgery patients, it makes no difference if the scale goes up to 11 pounds instead of 7, catch my drift?

The other two things you should have IF you don't already have them are comfortable pants, I find that mens PJ pants are both comfortable and if you don't get a ridiculous print you can get away with making a run to the pharmacy or Walmart in them if you must. I don't like to be that person running around in PJs but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and surgery is the mother of all excuses to do that.

3-4 ounce bowls and tupperwares are nice to have, but most people already have a lot of that type of thing.

I purchased an olive dish set because those hold about 3.5 ounces, which is perfect.

I dont bother with baby spoons and all that, because you are not always going to be eating at home, and in my opinion, you should learn to take a proper bite sooner rather than later. I suppose I could say the same for the dishes but I find them to be a huge help because I get frustrated when I have too much food in front of me, maybe its a personal thing.

I have to agree with nurse. Many items I purchased before surgery made it to the trash uneaten/unused....take it easy and see what you tolerate after surgery or buy small amts of things you think you might like.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
