I am super excited! My sleeve surgery is March 27 in TJ at OCC. I am not nervous about the surgery itself but definitely a little about what life is going to be like after, I am not telling friends or family members as I know there is no way they would approve. I will have my husband, 3 kids, and my parents to help support me through the process. I am sure eventually I will end up telling people because my eating habits are going to change drastically, and when I return back to work after maternity leave I should hopefully be down more than 50 pounds. I am thankful for VST and the great information I am getting from other sleevers! Thank you! I am tired of the weight even though I only just put it all back on in the past 9 months. Prior to my pregnancy I was 150 lbs but worked ridiculously hard to be there. I can't wait to get back at that weight or a little less with the help of my sleeve. From what I hear the sleeve is not easy breezy either but it will never allow me to over eat or say oh tomorrow I will get back on my diet. I am in fact nervous about loosing weight pre op that I am starting my liquid diet on Monday February 25 because I am not convinced that I can loose the required 11 pounds I need to loose in the 2 weeks prior. i would be devastated if I didn't lose enough and they cancelled my surgery. Do others feel this way?

I am not required to lose weight. Good luck. Mine is the 27th as well in CT. I was going todo by pass and dr on inched me to do sleeve. Can I ask why you opted for this one?

I'm also the 27th! :) & very ready! I didn't have to lose anything before but couldn't gain a lot. I ended up adding abt 10# over the course of my journey, but that was a 15 mo trek, and my BMI is still in the safe zone, so they aren't worried about it. Plus, with the liquid diet, I've now dropped 13#, so I'm hoping to have a nice surprisingly lower weight for my surgeon when I get there. :)

Only a few days away. Hard to believe. I am in a bit of limbo because my doctor had me do additional heart testing. I'm a nervous wreck that I am not going to be cleared for Wednesday. I want to be excited for surgery but don't want to be too disappointed if it gets cancelled. How is everyone feeling? Prepared?

Omigosh! I'd be going crazy... fingers crossed for you!!! :)

I'm as ready as I'll ever be, I guess. Last night had a pretty big argument with the mister & told him to not bother coming to the hospital... we'll see how that plays out. I won't even see him again until I get out of work tomorrow bc he'll be at work when I get home today & I'll be asleep by the time he gets home. Life here is pretty much normal. No one seems to care. I'm nervous as all get out.

I think it is hard for anyone who isn't going thru this to really understand. My husband is great but he really does not understand the scariness of such a life changing surgery. I think the physical and emotional feelings that we are describing are indescribable. Hang in there. We can be here for each other

Indeed! :) this is definitely some sort of sister/brotherhood. When do you find out about your testing results??

Good luck to you guys only 2 days left. Momiffivwcantwait. I opted for sleeve because I didn't like that so many people banded where going back for revision and I thought bypass was too much of a gastric surgery for me. Plication I was worried that you could never know what's going on in the part of the stomach that is sewin up. So sleeve was my best option. I hope your results are good. Praying for you.

Still no answers. Have to do another stress test tomorrow. Won't know if surgery is on until tomorrow night. Talk about last minute. Added stress is not nice

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
