So my surgery is March 4th and my doctor told me I needed to diet two weeks before. Just wanted to see if anyone has an suggestions of what would be best to eat. I have officially given up my coke which is a tough task to begin with. Haha they didn't really say specifics so I just wondered if any other doctors recommended certain things?

I'm in my one week pre-op diet of High Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids. My doctor told me this was to shrink my liver, making it easier to get to the stomach. I would think your doctor would give you more specifics. Maybe you should ask.

Hello there, Congrats on your surgery date! Check out www.myfitnesspal.com. It really helped me. I would follow that and then maybe do a Fluid preop diet one week before if they didn't outline a program for you. It helped me prepare for my postop diet. I would have Protein supplements, clear fluids, broth, sugar free Popsicles and Jello. That was it! Helps get your mind in the game!

Good luck!

I am on 40 grams or more of Protein shakes as Meal Replacements, and clear liquids. I have a huge list of the clear liquids I could share if you'd like. It basically boils down to diet juices and sugar free Popsicles, broths, Water, Decaf coffee. I am already giving up coffee. I figure i'll quit that now rather than after the surgery and deal with the withdrawal.

My doc only told me to stay away from sugar. So I followed a low carb diet pre-op.

Most doctors recommend everything from all liquid Protein shakes to an Atkins(ish) approach.

My diet is two or three low carb Protein Shakes per day plus one "lean and green" meal. (lean meat and a salad or side of dark leafy greens)

No other carbs than what might come from a bit of skim milk that I use to mix one of my Protein drinks or the greens.

They said basically low fat, avoid sugars, that kind of stuff. Just general things not specifics. This is a good idea though so that I can get used to what I'm going to be eating post-op. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! I love myfitnesspal. I've used it many times before when I did other diets and calorie counting, that kind of stuff. I will definitely go on there and look for some ideas. It never crossed my mind to do it for this. I did go on Instagram and find recipes and such but that's for post-op.

Yeah that's what they basically told me too. I figured I would ask for other ideas because I knew every doctor would be different.

Yeah, the coffee and coke will be the hardest for me to give up. I am definitely not a morning person until I get one cup of coffee. It's going to be hard giving it up. :( thanks for the tips though.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
