Hi everyone,

My name is Rachel, I had my surgery on September 25, 2006 and I was searching the web for fellow bandees! I live in Phoenix, AZ but I am origanally from Canada. I just wanted to hear about others experiences with the band and get and share some tips. Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Great so far, it was hard at first, the first couple of weeks suck, the diet is really restrictive at first but now I can eat ok. I started at 302 and as of today I am 266. Feel great. When are you thinking of having it done?

Good luck! I think it is the best thing I have ever done for my self! It is a little tough getting used to 1/2 cup portions but you get so full it is ok it just looks like you're going to starve when you look at your plate!

it will be like when I am pregnant, the only way i lose weight, I am full after a full bites and hardly ever hungry. we never went out to dinner because it was a waste for me, and if we did i just took a few bites of my husbands plate. This is going to be so great!

Hi,

I am seriously considering the lap band. I have not heard too many negetive things about it so that's good.

I live in Vancouver and wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where to go.

Thanks.

I have not had the lap band surgery done as of yet. I am doing some research. I am a little scared however, I have to weigh my options. My Dr. told me I am borderline high cholestoral, high blood pressure and getting to be diabetic. So I guess the option is simple. The only thing is I have lupus with kidney involement which I feel is a double whammy however, if I have this done and i loose weight maybe it will help my lupus and kidneys. Any suggestions?

Hi, Dollybird. I was banded on Oct. 13th by Dr. Wai Leung in Surrey (close for you) 581-2515. To date, I have lost just under 50 lbs. Do it! You know, I called his office the end of June last year and here I am already banded!

$13,000 inclusive; cheaper if you don't have to stay overnight in the hospital.

I am super happy thus far.

Kat.:)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
