Feeling like im going to throw up!

Recommended Posts

I am almost 2 months out, 1 week away from being cleared for all food. Last night around 9pm I had a thin slice a pastrami (cold cuts). I woke up at 3am nauseous, and still now 7pm feeling the same way. I am exhausted too. Could this be bc my body didn't agree with the pastrami? I've taken my medicine so not to be nauseous and it's hasn't subsided. My stomach is making weird noises. Any ideas???

Did the pastrami have any hard pieces in it?

The little crumbly black stuff that's sometimes on it. I've not had any side effects prior to this. In fact I forget I had the surgery. I can't eat a lot but I don't have many restrictions.

That is black pepper. Pastrami is smoked or cured. Maybe that process added something that disagrees with you.

Things like the lil crumbly black spices in the pastrami can take a while to digest. It can irritate and inflame your staple line... It is best to avoid all foods with things like that strawberries included even fibrous foods like celery can be bad.

Try drinking some pineapple juice and see if you aren't feeling better by tomorrow. If you get worse, you'll need to call your surgeon because a tiny piece can get stuck and cause lots of pain/nausea etc

Now I'm scared! I didn't think about it like that. What does pineapple juice do?

I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you. It's just information new sleevers need to know

Don't worry too much, lots of people have eaten things like this too soon and they have been ok.

It is just something that can pose a problem.

It helps with digestion. Try it and hopefully that will help

It is also suggested to drink a little meat tenderizer for the same reason but I am not sure how much or how you drink it.

My post op notebook says to drink pineapple juice and call the dr if you are not better by day 3 or call if you get worse and not better.

Please don't be worried... This is not a common problem... Most people's bodies work it out. It's just hard during that time.

I have also heard the sleeve patients should restrict processed deli foods. Never really knew why though. I assumed because of high sodium and higher in fat. Please post if the pineapple juice works.

pineapple contains a "meat tenderizing" like enzyme called bromelain. A lot of marinades have it, and you can buy it in pill form to take orally. It's amazing for scar tissue post surgery. The tiny amount in juice can help with digestion of things that are taking longer than you'd like to pass through. Just monitor your intake, very high in fruit sugars!

I should clarify, post most surgeries -- not right after VSG. I used it after a knee and endometrial surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
