Surgery yesterday, not bad

Recommended Posts

So I have been on this forum snce I started my sleeve approval journal and must admit have become obsessed since I got my date. I was sleeved yesterday and am happy to report that it has not bad as I thought. My main complaint is discomfort due to the bloating. This is caused by the air pumped inside to perform surgery. I was told that on the first day I would be passing a lot of gas and I have not even burped once. That discomfort is awful. Other than that, I feel great. My surgery was at noon and I woke up in recovery at 3pm. I was in and out of sleep until about 8:30pm. At 10:30 I was given a sponge bath and then was taken for a walk. Now I am awake because of the discomfort coupled with the fact that I am sleeping on my back. Anybody else having these same issues.

Walk, walk, walk... That will help move the gas...

On my 4th night i was finally able to sleep on my right side with a pillow tucked under my tummy for support. That was when i finally slept well. Left side takes several more days to feel comfortable. Just try to keep in your head inside tummy gas separate from outside tummy gas. Once the body gas disipates, your back and shoulders will feel better. Walking helps to move it around. Excessive burping may mean you are swallowing too much water/shake in each sip. Just take it slow and think how swelled and injured that pour tummy is. It truly does improve significantly each day so just take it easy and in just a couple of days you will be amazed at how well you feel! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Consider yourself lucky.. I had mine a week ago, I was in excruciating pain for 2 days and I puked my heart out! The most unpleasant and painful experience of my life! I was only allowed one dose of a controlled pain reliever every 7 hours, which was definitely not enough for me!

This has been so traumatic I'm glad it's over! Feels like a month already :)

Heating pads!!! I used one on my abdomen and chest when I got home. I burped all day one day and finally passed gas the day after. Gas x doesn't work just saying.

When I was in hospital I walked around my ward every hour and it helped a lot with gas pains. Every time I had more gas pains I walked more. Even in the middle of the night.

I learnt to sleep on my back pretty easily even though I never did before surgery. I had to wake up every few hours for more pain killers so I didn't get much sleep until I got home.

Hope everything goes smoothly

Oh baby the gas pain was terrible! I couldn't pass gas either, no matter how much walking I did. I was sleeved on 2/12. I'm much better now. Bumpy ride home I think helped to shake things up and I was able to pass some gas the afternoon of 2/14. I had to get up and walk in the hospital because not only the gas pain but sleeping mostly on my back made my whole body hurt. Funny thing.. I could sleep on my left side in the hospital (percocett maybe?) but now I can only sleep on my right. SOOO much better now though!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
