Received insurance approval and a surgery date. When can i swim?

Recommended Posts

My claim was submitted to Aetna on Friday. Yesterday morning I got a phone call that my surgery was approved. Two business day turnaround! I guess sometimes being really fat pays off. Suck it all you low-BMI people! :)

I am now he proud owner of a March 11 surgery date. I'm a little concerned because we have a vacation planned to go to the Grand Canyon on April 1st and then to my mom's house in Arizona on April 8th. Obviously I should be fine to fly by then, and walking around the Grand Canyon shouldn't be a problem (no plans to venture IN the canyons. Just hike around at the top). But what about swimming while visiting my mom's starting on April 8th? I will be exactly 4 weeks post-surgery.

Depends on what you mean by "swimming". If you mean casual swimming, cooling off in the pool, then I'm sure you'll be fine. Doing laps or vigorous exercise should wait till you are about 6 weeks or so out.

Thanks for the reply. I did mean just getting in to cool off and splash around with the kids. I also realized that when we get to my mom's house I will be five weeks out from surgery, not four. I will be four weeks out when we leave for the Grand Canyon. I'm hoping to have a quick recovery and some stamina built up by then to be able to do a lot of walking while there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
