Revision questions for those who can relate!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am 5 weeks out and I am a band to sleeve revision (one year apart) and AFTER my revision my surgeon told me ppl who had the band before usually lose slower and have less restriction. I feel this is exactly what has happened to me. Some days I am not that hungry and can eat 4bites and I'm full and then some days (like today, sadly) I feel hungry most of the day and eat 1000calories. On an average day I eat 700-850calories. Judging by others on this site it seems like most people 5weeks out can only eat 500calories!!! Am I a total f$&k up or what?! I feel 500cal is not possible for me. I don't feel like I'm exaggerating as I'm eating Protein but I don't have a problem eating 5-6 small portions. I have lost 15lbs since being sleeved 5weeks ago. Am I normal? Lol

Anyone else feel they can eat more or less because of the band revision?

This is exactly how i feel too! I can eat 6 or 8 oz of food without any restriction. I guess the big thing that has changed though is the edgy insatiable hunger is gone.. Anyway, good riddance to the band! When i talked to my doc, they want me closer to 700 calories. I am trying to get back to basics/low carb to see if it will help with portion sizes. I'm 6 weeks out and 16 pound diwn.

Well at least I'm not the only one alone!!! Yes I see people who can only eat one ounce of Protein. I can eat an entire 6oz Greek yogurt cup for Breakfast. So I guess we are on the slow and steady path? I think it will take more mindfulness for us

I am 14 months out from revision. I have had great losses and the numbet 1 advice is small portions.

Dont strive for full, shoot for absence of hunger. Dont focus on how much you " can" eat focus on small amounts. Eating low carb helps.

Remember also that it takes time. A good NUT can really help.

I am almost three months, had band/sleeve revision in one. Early on I could eat a little more but now am satisfied with smaller amounts. I totally agree with the opinion on being either carb free or very low carb, I eat green and coloured veggies but no bread or refined carbs and sugar, one of my only treats is the chocolate Protein balls that are made from oats etc, I find if I do, that somehow enables me to eat more and I just don't want to do that. Try to limit yourself to protein and veggies for a few days

Ok I hear what you guys are saying just because I CAN eat 8oz doesn't mean I have to. I wish sometimes I didn't feel hungry. It looks like everyone is having difficulty eating 500calories and I eat 800calories easily and am totally satufied by the end of the day.

I'm not eating tortillas or breads. I eat Beans and mean and cottage cheese. Is it ok to eat the Chobani flavored Greek yogurt cups? Those are where my carbs/sugar comes from daily. Is that bad? It's 6oz and I can eat the entire thing for Breakfast. Is that too much? It does keep me satisfied. I figure I lost 16lbs in 5weeks I'm losing slow and steady but healthy. I get too wrapped up in reading other people losing 40lbs in two months and eating 400calories a day. I know I'm working out 4x a week and eating good Protein.

Thanks for listening!!!

For me, it's really hard to keep perspective but in my more logical moments, i realize 20 lbs in two months is pretty darn remarkable and i know without the help of my sleeve near possible. It may be more than others buy i am eating healthier and less and feel pretty awesome. I also eat the chobani. You and i have so many similarities. If we continue to lose a pound or two every week, we will be at goal in no time flat. :-)

The way I see it.. if you lose 10 pounds a month, you will be down 120 pounds in a year. That is big weightloss! The people you see losing huge amounts of weight quickly usually have huge amounts to lose. If you are trying to lose 300lbs and you are on a 600 calorie a day diet... of course you are gonna lose more than somebody who is only carrying 250 pounds to begin with. The goal is to get to a healthy weight but losing in a healthy way is also very important. Good luck in your weightloss journey!

I hate to see things like this because it makes me angry and sad. If your eating 1000 a day sweetheart your still eating half of what normal people (people without gastrectomies) are. It's nothing to beat yourself up about. Remember that we all are different and have different mentalies so therefore we all do things differently. I personally feel as though if someone is only getting 500 cals a day then something is wrong. Much success to darling

I <3 this forum. Thanks to the OP and all the positive reinforcement from all the other posters. It's nice to be on a journey together even if our paths and paces are different.

Thanks to everyone. I know you're all right and I have to stop and check myself when I start comparing myself to others. Glad we have this site to check in with. Good luck to everyone.

What has been your happiest post-op moment this far? So far mine has been being too full on small portion to over eat on seconds as I normally would.

I have had a million happiest post op moments. I have to say probably the most memorable was when a guy I have known for years, very conservative, very polite, professional type relationship says to me "holy ****, you are HOT!" On days when I feel low, I remember that moment and smile...lol.. I have come along way from the 300+ pound woman who hated to be seen by others.

So, early on, your tummy sensations are not mature. I don't have time to type a novel about this, but bottom line, don't believe the bull that you are somehow not going to be as successful since you are a revision. The REASON for that is bandsters have learned how to cheat... lets me honest... that band trained us to go for sliders etc. If you take that lesson "how i failed at weight loss surgery without really trying" and be determined to learn from it and have a different experience this time - there is no reason you can't rock the sleeve and have awesome results.

I beat the odds - started at 50+ BMI, was banded for 10 years with crappy results... and here I am now... at goal and feeling great. You too can do this and it doesn't matter if the weight comes off fast or slow... steady and smart choices wins at this race.

I didn't have a revision, just the sleeve, but I can eat a while yogurt or drink a whole shake, but food is a whole different story. and each meat is different on how much I can eat. the food scale is a life saver! some meats I can only have 1 ounce and others I can eat 2 ounces.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
