Question- In the hospital

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve yesterday and only got to have ice chips all day. Well today they started me on Clear Liquids. My questions is, whenever I try to nod off and sleep I keep waking myself up and slightly choke on whatever is in my stomach. He nurses say it is normal to spit up but is it normal to constantly wake up to it? I mean I can't sleep!

I did not have that problem. I personally would ask the Dr. if he is not scheduled to see you have them put a call in.

It's generally advisable to not eat/drink and then sleep immediately, at least for me. I have had issues with some pretty severe acid reflux, and have aspirated stomach acid (not advisable or fun). Try sleeping propped up at an angle rather than flat, and you shouldn't have so much of an issue.

It doesn't matter if I don't drink or anything for 30 minutes, it still happens. I guess I will be asking the doctor whenever he comes in today. It's just weird, I have "foam" come up after Water. 30 seconds later it is coming back up. I just don't see how this is normal like the nurses say.

I was told it was normal. A process of your stomach heeling. Doesn't always occur with everyone but it was listed as a side effect. They said if it happens drink something warm to help break it up.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
