Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

It's hot in Australia as it is the middle of simmer. I ran 6 km this morning at 8:30 and still roasted! I'm glad I got in the run even though I have been main-lining Water for 3 hours since and just now feeling less dehydrated.

As for running being fun? That's not a requirement to me. It feels the least like work of any exercise I have tried, can be done everywhere, is efficient (burns lots of calories per unit of time), and works for me. I guess I have accepted that not everything in life has to be fun. :)

Started week 2 of my 1/2 trainer. My ultimate goal is to be able to put a 13.1 sticker on my van. Lol it's the little things that get me! ;-)

Sorry but it think it's fun. Once you learn to find that runners high every time, it's very enjoyable. Nothing else gives me the peace of mind like running. For me it's all a matter of running within myself. Staying in my aerobic zone. If I get out of that, the fun's over.

Well I wouldn't quite use the word "fun" yet but I must say I am happy and a bit proud when I am at the end of the run. I hope to get to the point of finding it fun like butter. It's just to darn hard right now to be called fun.

I finished day 2 of week 5 which were the 8 minute runs and was able to do it with a lot of huffing and puffing but still did it. Tomorrow this crazy app jumps to a 20 minute continuous run - what the... Then the next day goes back to 8 minutes. I assume the inventor of the app has some logical reason for this. I must admit I am intimidated but I will try my best even if it means slowing down to a crawl.

You can do it Scarlett. Start slow and find your magic pace.

Mr. Bean you look awesome and good luck on the half marathon. I know you will do great you are an inspiration to those of us who are chugging along at a snails pace trying to make it to 2 miles.

Well after much anxiety I took your advice LisaT and found my magic pace which I discovered is just slightly faster than my fast walk but I did it. I ran the full 20 minutes. The things I promised myself and told myself in my head when I wanted to stop! I knew I was going to make it when I looked at my phone and had less than 10 minutes left. The next day on the app is back to 8 minutes. I sure this has some logic to it and I am determined to finish this app. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Congrats on making it through the dreaded W6D1!! It's all mental at this point because your body will be able to make it through it. I always do a body check when I want to stop. Is my breathing ok? If not, I slow my pace down. Are my legs and knees ok? If not, I shorten my stride and slow my pace. Is my energy level ok? If not, I fuel differently next run. When I've bonked (had to stop running), 99% of the time it's because of energy.

I've had a difficult month. I've run 2 times in the last 4 weeks. Had to work way too many hours and then ended up with bronchitis and then had to travel for work last week. Finally got a good run in this morning and was worried about going long. I'm training for a half and I need the long runs to get me ready. The furthest I've run has been a 10K (6.2 mi). This morning I ran 8 freaking miles!!! I'm going to pay for it tomorrow, but everything is feeling good right now.

Had another NSV this last week and only you all can understand how happy this makes me...

That is very impressive what you have done and are planning to do. Very motivational! Love the NSV.

That is so awesome!! You believed in yourself and that's the biggest battle. I have finally come to the realization that slow is better than no. I will get faster eventually. Each week I just added another minute to my runtime and I know that eventually the endurance will allow the speed to follow.

I love coming here and reading all of the encouragement from you guys. You're all the bomb!

What do you do for energy? I just saw my nutritionist last week and she told me to cut back on carbs. She told me to load up on a Protein Shake before my run. I'm also in a stall with my weight loss and she says it's because of too many carbs.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
