What is the point?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am looking for information. What is the point of a medically supervised six-month diet? I know some insurance companies require this and I am just wondering, what is the point? I have lost gobs of weight on diets over the years and I have rebounded significantly and painfully from each of them. I can't believe it is to determine if you can lose weight or not, I would not choose a serious medical procedure if I could keep the weight off. Is it a delaying tactic used to weed out those who are serious? If so, they are just making those who can't afford to self-pay wait. Or maybe they are hoping you will switch insurance companies before the six months is over. Besides the delaying the procedure it also adds to the expense having to visit your doctor once a month (time off work + cost of office visit).

Actually, the reason I am just wondering why a medically supervised six month diet is required is that my insurance company has just informed me I will need to do this or show evidence of such:faint: And being economically conservative I just never thought of paying a doctor to babysit my weightloss attempts:mad: . As if a doctor can guarantee weight loss. If that were true then I wouldn't need a lap band! DUH!

So, somebody, please enlighten me. I hope to counter their requirement and need some ammo.

Thanks a million,

Terri

PS I have significant life experience and at my age time is of the essence.

Terri--I have no idea, in fact my insurance required it for 12 months, and weekly visits with a nutritionist as well---which in my rural area we do not have a licensed nutritionist--I would have had to drive 186 miles one way -372 miles a week to abide by this. They finally gave in on that, and were going to allow my Dr. to counsel me on nutrition. I got 10 1/2 months into the program and was injured in a car accident, and they would have required me to start over, the 12 months has to be consecutive. I appealled, and lost, and eventually went self pay, in hind sight, i wish I had hired an attorney and MADE them pay!!! They claim to cover it, then they should!!!

Good Luck---I will be pulling for you!!!

Kat

Thank you, Kat, your story reminds me that things really are not so bad and perhaps I just need to be patient. I know many have gone before me.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
