Mayday mayday! :)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I was hoping to be sleeved in March over spring break, but I made the hard decision to push it back til May until after finals are done. Now I have more time to prepare both mentally and physically so that I can make the surgery a life long change. I think I'm happy with my decision even though it was bittersweet.

Hello you May babies! You are near and dear to my heart because I'm a May Sleever too. This May it will be 2 years. I will be celebrating one year at goal weight this March. I love my sleeve and will be thinking of each of you in May as you begin your post-op journey to goal.

Linda! So great to know you are doing amazing! I am scared now tha I am approved. I have never been restricted for life on portion sizes and trying to figure out how I have to deal with people's negative comments at my job since I have to tell at least a few people since they see me eat and will notice a difference and my family. I am hoping I am making the right decision bc I think I am out of options and desperately want a change. Do you have a before and after picture to share with us?

I do have a gallery. It's been awhile since I added to it, but I'm about the same size. I still haven't added a goal weight pic. In my last picture I am less than 5 lb.s from goal though. You can click my pic to see my profile and then click the Gallery link to see the pics. This link may work: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/user/5461-lsereno/

As for negative nells, I deal with them based on how I feel about them:

  • Really love them: I spend time working with them to help them understand why this is the best option for me.
  • Like them: I spend a little time explaining why this is the best option for me. If they harp after that, I shut them down with "My Dr. and I have decided this is the best option for me:.
  • Don't like them: go straight to the "My Dr. and I.." comment.

As far as Portion Control, I can now eat a small meal. That's what naturally skinny people do. I don't feel deprived. It does take a while, but that is part of the healing process.

Yeah, that's really great advice, Lynda. Thank you! Also, you look absolutely fantastic there with Mr. Wax Clooney. I thought it was a picture of you getting engaged and got a pretty good laugh when I expanded it and saw who it was you were standing next to. :D

Yeah! Madame Tussards at Las Vegas. So proud to be skinnier than Clooney :-)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
