Recommended Posts

Well my surgery isnt until sometime in June! My insurance requires a 6month diet class and at first I was upset about it being so long but now since I'm on my 4th class with 2 more to go, I like no Im not ready lol. My nerves are kicking in and I just hope everything goes ok and get to where I need to be! Mind in scrambles! Any helpful tips?

I hear ya. I'm scheduled for the 20th of this month. Only 13 days from now eeek! I'm really nervous. Terrified might be the better word. But I'm not going to let my fear get the best of me. I have a picture that keeps me going. It was taken about two years ago at a formal event with my hubby, probably near my highest weight. I thought I looked cute that night, but all I can see now is how big I am. How tired I look. Despite my smile I look so unhappy. That reminds me why I'm doing this. Try taking a picture. It's a real motivator.

Jasmine, I'm getting the SAME way! I was told I had to wait 6 months too...I have 2 more to go! At first I was really upset, thinking "I want change NOW!" But the last 4 months have been good for me. I've been learning new eating habits, I'm seeing a counselor to help me both pre-op and post-op, and I've even lost a few lbs! Now, I'm experiencing mixed emotions...part of me wishes my surgery would be tomorrow, while the other part of me is just now relizing that after surgery, my life will be forever changed. Even with my worries, I feel like I'm ready to tackle the next chapter of my life. I've been seeing my dietitian every month, keeping my food journel, taking my vitimans and trying to walk a few times a week. Let's just work on doing what we're supposed to do now...and hopefully by our surgery time, we can be more mentally ready! I'm sure no matter what, we will have jitters...but, by then, we should be more at ease :)

I am floored at how long the process takes in the US. I am having my surgery in the DR. Went in, spoke to my doctor and he was ready to operate with two weeks. Since then I have been the one to move the surgery date twice.

To tell you the truth, I feel like Im missing out on the counseling part even though I am 100% sure of what I want.

Best if luck to all!

I'm right there with you. I'm counting down the days until I have my surgery on the 26th. Some days I'm excited, other days I'm ready to throw in the towel, but in the end, I know this has to be done. I'm one of those that looks to the bad about everything and hides the good. It's hard, but we'll get through this and on to a better, healthier life style.

I'm actually really glad that I had to wait 6 months for surgery. Sure, if I had the chance, I would have had it a while ago...but...the wait has been really good for me. I feel like it's important to wait so that you can really learn about what's going to happen and the changes that are going to take place. We've lived our entire lives eating what we want, when we want....we can't just learn new eating habits overnight. My mom had the bypass back in '04 and she didn't have to go any pre-op steps (dietitian appoitments, psych eval, etc.) Because of that, she psychologicially wasn't ready for the change. She didn't have the supports in place to help her learn new habits. So, she still struggles with her weight and never reached her goal weight. Having to wait sounds like a bad thing, but what's having to wait 6 months compared to leading a healthy life for the rest of your life is very do-able.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
