i hate my lapband

Recommended Posts

I was banded with plication in August 2012. I have had two fills so far. I have not lost any weight since November. I follow my diet, exercise etc. Now I am having pain in my stomach and left side around to my back. It gets worse when I eat. I went throught Dr. Wilkenfeld in Conroe and am finding out that he doesn't really care about you after your surgery. Is it too soon to consider another surgeon and possibly a revision to sleeve? Will another surgeon even see me? I wish I knew what I know now about him before using him and having the lapband. He talked me out of the sleeve and I wish I had just changed doctor's then.

At Kaiser's bariatric program, we are advised against the LapBand and told it has ill effects and a poor success rate. We were given the info that only 2% of people opt for it and that too its not advised by doctors. I heard that they may even stop it here.

Not to worry you, but it's good for you to do research and get correct information. Might be worth getting a second opinion and looking into what your options are.

Get another opinion and it's not to early to consider an alternative WLS. Don't wait until you have major issues like I did. Check my profile story out. If you are having issues and wait to long you won't be able to go directly from band to sleeve. I had to wait 18 months because my symptoms were ignored and did major damage and nearly cost me my life.

Yes! See another surgeon now! Find the best in your area and find out if its too late to revise! I hate my band and can't wait to be sleeved.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
