Sannah I can't remember have you had a ct scan?

Hi!!

I love your new photo!! Your beautiful!!! :) How are you doing?

I have had several, 4 in the last two and a half months. The last 3 show no leak and several kidney stones in each kidney. Unfortunately the nasty surgeon knew about the stones and never told me, even when I complained about back/kidney pain and trouble peeing...

Best,

Sannah

I don't know why they are waiting for the results of that urine test before they break up the stones. I had the same test. I collected all my urine in 2 huge containers and they sent it away. It took forever for the results to come back. In the mean time, I went to day surgery, and he blew up the stones with ultra sound and the pain was gone immediately. He said I would not feel them passing because they were now smaller than grains of sand. I was so happy not to be peeing blood anymore! I went home in a few hours feeling 100% better.

I still have a kidney stone in my left kidney. So far, it's not growing or trying to pass.

My urologist said it's very common for WLS patients to get kidney stones. He doesn't know why.

Hi!

I wish I knew. It's down right miserable. The pain comes and goes. I generally end up in fetal position wishing I weren't around anymore. The narcotics take the edge off the pain.

Sounds like the surgery is nice. Did you have a stent in place after words?

I was told all this pain is because the stones are moving. Moving around inside my kidneys and maybe into my ureters.

What a great relief to hear that the ones in your left kidney aren't growing. But don't you need to get rid of them?

My goodness sounds like you received immediate relief!! I have been having this pain for over a month. My next appointment is on the 13th. It's a lot of suffering to endure. At this appointment I will learn of my treatment options.

You filled up two container during your 24 collection? Holy moly!!! I must be having more problems than I thought!! I am having troubles peeing. Yesterday I was able to pee twice!! I kept trying but no luck. Today I peed the most I have in a long time I had 30oz out put. I consumed 80oz water/liquid.

Best,

Sannah

There is no stent used for the breaking up of the stones. There is no cutting at all just ultra sound waves to break up the stones. They just place the machine behind your back and send the waves into your kidneys. That's when they are reduced in size.

That way they are small enough to pass without pain or getting lodged.

With the size of your stones, they will most likely get lodged. Google passing 6mm stones.

In my case I waited too many days and they lodged in my ureter blocking my kidney. Surgery was preformed and yes they use a stent but it is NOT the type of stent u had for a leak. It is a tiny tiny tube flexible and it's placed inside your ureter not your urethra to help it stay open to flush your kidneys it can not be felt while it is i place. It only stays in 5 days and is painless. Even the removal is painless. I was so thankful for that surgery.

And the shockwave procedure it a breeze and instant relief and success in passing.

Yikes. I am feeling fearful after reading everything. The relief sounds nice!! I wonder why the nephrologist said I can pass the stones? Based in what you say it doesn't seem that I can. Scary.

It seems like you are going to have to be an advocate for yourself and ask your dr why these steps have not been taken.

I believe you need to be seen in the ER for a ultrasound scan and they will contact your doctor . If he has suggested you go then that is where you should be... You really are suffering needlessly. Please call your dr and/or head to the ER

It was through the ER that I got set up for the procedures.

Praying for you!

Talked to the nephrologist today.

She said I can pass stones this size. She asked tons of questions and told me this is all normal. She told me when to go to the ER.

I drank 56oz today so far

Peed 7oz so far

Threw up twice.

This evening my pain is not bad. Seems to have stayed away for a while. Dr is a little concerned about my low urine out put.

That's why I asked if you had a ct scan so they can see the size of the stones and see if they are blocking your output... I don't see how the "kind"of stones matter right now as much as the size..it's just confusing to me

Oh I thought you had said your stones were 1/4 inch.

I get threads confused.

Did she scan you to make sure your ureters are clear?

Any size stone can lodge into your ureter kidney or bladder because they are spikey like porcupines

:(

Hi Lisa,

No, you are right about size. But the dr said I can pass them. Does this seem odd to you?

Last ct I had no obstruction. Doesn't mean this didn't change.

I have been told everything I am experiencing is normal. To keep comfortable with medication.

I am trying to eat dinner. I hope it stays down. I have not eaten much today and what I did eat so far didn't stay in. Odd since my pain isn't too bad today. It's running about 5-6 on the pain scale. It gets to be like a 25 (off the chart) when it's bad.

Best,

Sannah

Hi Laura,

I hope your doing good.

The last ct scan was clear of obstruction. That doesn't mean things are still the same. I was told I only pass one stone at a time. This is going to be a long road.

I am trying to get some dinner down. Currently my heart is racing. Pain is bearable at a 5-6 on the pain scale.

I am going to law down again.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
