Constipation HELL....P!

Recommended Posts

This maybe a little TMI but I was sleeved 1/21/13, and have yet to have a BM. I wasn't really worried at first because of being on liquids for a week post-op, but I started eating pureed this past Monday (5 days ago) and still haven't gone. This also did't really have me too worried because I'm not getting a lot of food in, only about 1 tablespoon in 2 maybe 3 times a day. But this morning I woke up and thought today was the day... I can feel it movin in there and I've been extra gassy (TMI again, I know) and when I go to the bathroom I feel like I have to go but noting happens. It's painful being in there and it's painful trying to get it out, my abs are hurting from all the pushing. I tried taking a hot shower, and thought about Miralax but it would take me forever to drink all of it... ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated, please help!!

One dose of Miralax should dissolve in 8 oz of Water, juice, etc. It doesn't matter if it takes all day for you to drink it. Only problem is that it takes a few days to work and it sounds like you are pretty uncomfortable. I took it and it worked like a charm within about 3 days- 1 dose per day. You could also try Milk of Magnesia.

I don't know if its bad that I take this, but I've had Constipation hell ever since I was sleeved, I'm 7 weeks out. I have to take a laxative, not milk of magnesia bc its disgusting lol but it's a generic tablet, Bisacodyl. The maximum dose is 3 tablets but all I need is 1 tablet now. Ive started taking it once a week now to help me go bc if I didn't I would never go and if I did try without it, it hurt SOO BADLY! So far its been working and I feel fine.

If you drink a hot beverage after, even plain Water it'll make it work a bit faster.

I had the same problem and read on here to take two Fiber gummies. There are some made by FiberWell that are 5g of carbs (5g fiber) per serving. There is a coupon for them right now at costco if you have one near you. Two of these around late afternoon makes the magic happen the next morning - like clockwork! It may be too early for you right now, so do try the Miralax. I did that first but I don't want to have to rely on Miralax to be able to do my business.

I am doc and a sleeve patient, but for my legal disclaimer - this is not official medical advice. Gotta keep the lawyers from making money off of me.

Miralax or MOM is typically the best way to go if the warm Soups or broth don't do it for you. You can actually do the miralax more than 1 time a day and it seems to work quicker. I would avoid the bisacodyl or senna products if possible because your body can get dependent on them over time. Some people require them though. I am a week ahead of you (Jan 14, 2013) and have hit the Constipation wall. Started my miralax today. Good luck.

At 7weeks I'd suggest adding chia seeds to your shakes. They will help a lot.

Do you gel them first? How much do you add in to your shakes?

I've used Smooth Move tea but it does have Senna in it.

4-6 oz of apple juice does the trick for me. if that doesn't work Milk of Magnesia is the only other way that had worked for me when on pain meds.

I add 2tblsp and put it in the fridge for 10-15 min. So, yes, semi gelled.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
