I always feel hungry! I'm drinking my fluids, eating my Protein, and I still am just hungry like I was before surgery. What is up?? I started out eating about 2 ounces of food...now I can eat about 3 to 3 1/2 ounces no problem. I'm worried I'm gonna stretch my sleeve. Any tips or ideas?

Here's some background info: I'm one month out from surgery, and I've had zero complications--no vomiting, pain, or any other problem. I've lost about 22 pounds so far.

Is your stomach growling with hunger or do you just "think" you are hungry?

I am almost 5 weeks out and I still get hungry too. an acid reducer helped somewhat. dont let anyone tell you its all in your head. sometimes hunger is really hunger. Its gets better as you advance your diet. I am ok with it now (for awhile i was pretty down about it). but i know that if it werent for some hunger, i would never eat. Beat of luck ot you!

I'm only a week out and I get hungry. Just started uping my Protein to see if that would hold me longer. I was able to eat 2 scrambled eggs today for lunch and felt the "full" feeling afterwards... I was a little uncomfortable. I see my doctor on Thursday so I was going to talk to them :)

You need a PPI if you aren't already taking one. And they aren't all the same and aren't the same for each person. The one they prescribed for me, Protonix, did not do much for me. Prevacid works great for me, but after around 3 months it is no longer effective and I have to switch out with another PPI.

Not to discredit minimeway....antacids can be helpful, but PPIs work on a different mechanism. You may need to experiment with different ones. Some take several days before you feel the effects.

What's Prilosec?

It's an OTC PPI.

I am 8 months post op. In the begenning I was always hungry too! It does go away! Im not sure why but I never feel hunger anymore. I can eat about 4-5 ounces of food if its chewed up really good. Solid Protein is less. Good luck!

I'm 12 weeks out and while I still have hunger it's now bearable. Now it feels like normal, "you should probably eat" hunger, not that ravenous, "I'm going to gnaw off my hand if I don't get something to eat NOW!" feeling that I initially had. That was the worst and it was real. I was taking a PPI and that didn't help at that time. I think it all calmed down somewhere around week 5 or 6.

Now I can feel hunger and still wait literally hours wo eating. Note that I don't do that on purpose, just that it has happened at work or another situation where I didn't plan my meals well and bring something with me. I share it only to say that the hunger has settled enough that it has actually happened. I couldn't imagine it when I was only a month post op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
