First I want to say' date=' I am so sorry you are experiencing this difficult situation with your surgeon. Second, I am sorry you are now experiencing childish behavior on a site that is actually supposed to be a support forum. I truly hope things begin to turn in your favor soon. Lastly, what is wrong with some of you, she comes here asking for a little support and to see if anyone is or has experienced what she is going through and you attack her, really? How about if you don't have anything supportive to say or helpful in anyway you don't post. No one cares to listen to people have playground fights, or from another psting I witnessed an almost full fledge sexting party which was utterly ridiculous. I came to this site myself for support during a very scary and rewarding time in my life to learn from others going throgh the same thing I am. I didn't come here to read a bunch of useless, mindless, and self absorbed opinions of others, or for a date! Go to match.com if your lonely or take it offline. Also, if you just have to fight with someone on here, just exchange numbers and handle it like adults and leave the rest of us out of it. That was my soap box moment, I hope people are not offended and understand some of us just want to make friends and get al little support.[/quote']

I so agree with you. And hope everything is ok with her. I just thin that med group play her and is doing insurance fraud. On top of all she is dealing now that last thing she need is for people judges her. I had never hear of a situation like her, and I did lot of researches before I had my surgery. And I don't ate cream of Soup till now 3 week after surgery. But every body is different and every doc is different. I can not eat any solid til 9 weeks after surgery. And still having pain when I eat more that 3oz, but like I said we not here to judges we here to support each other specially in time when we need it the most. She didn't post this to see everyone argue about her post she came here for support, advice and to see if anyone had experience the same. We Are not doctors. I hope she keep us posted because I would love to know exactly what happen and if those doc group play her they all should be behind bars. This can happen to anyone. I am glad she posted it so people research they doc before having the surgery. (Sorry for all misspelled words)

I don't believe her... I used the same group' date=' they were excellent. And I go to the monthly support group meetings where I've met 100's of successful patients. Something is fishy here.

[/quote']

You used them that don't mean that they could be doing it to some people not all. Think about this if they had done it to all them they get catch. It's rude that you just don't believe her them try not to even post and keep it to ur self. We here to give support to people that needed. I glad that ur went right. But that you had a good experience don't said that everyone did. Not trying tone rude to you.

I just want to say this "IF" she is taking in all that Protein she claims "IF" it is possible to gain the weight ONLY if she is using a weight gainer formula Protein Drink. Some weight gainers have as much as 1800-2000 calories per serving. But I was sleeved on 1/7/13 I'm down about 25 post op and I can eat. I eat more than I see people posting here. I can eat almost a full 18 ounces of Soup at a time but can only handle 2 eggs with a slice of turkey ham and 1 slice of cheese. I've been reading this blog since it was started and been researching this non stop and it is physically impossible for this to happen if she was sleeved. It just can't happen in that short of a time period and even more so for someone to gain 20 pounds in 7 weeks is a ton of weight in a short period as well. Something is very fishy about this blog.

I got sleeve on the 8 A day after you and I was thinking I am always hungry but I can only sip 3 oz of soup. And I am not able to eat anything solid until 9 week after surgery that is 2 months I was on clear liquid for 2 week before surgery, 3 week after surgery, now on full liquid. What I am trying to say everyone is different while here you can eat egg and 1 slide of turkey ham I had not been able to do none of that. None of the Lessing was recover fast I went back to work on the Monday after my surgery and was walking two mile on that same day. You had loss more weight I had, I had 267 surgery day, I am 255 3 week after surgery. I don't think gaining is possible though but everyone loss weight different. I was losing more weigh before the surgery from 315 on oct 11,2012 to 267 on surgery day. But I agree with you on the Protein I had seen some that had lots of calories so maybe that can be the weight gain. Also before surgery I did lot of researches from doctor all over the US and Mexico and see every doc is different and had different way. While some give you the liquid diet before surgery other don't. Some of the Mexican doc don't even tell u you need to drink protein. I called several doc before I chooses mine and I ask lot of questions.

I had an appointment with my surgeon today and showed him this post. He thought it was very funny and said there is no possible way that at 7 weeks the stomach could just suddenly stretch. He said it stretches slightly over a period of 12 months.

He was really happy with my weight loss though but said I need to eat more.

Hi,

Did your doc give you an idea of what "more" means? I'm worried my calories are too high at 800 daily and my plan does not specify calorie amounts at all.

Thanks!

Dana

I had a D.O. tell me years ago (upon learning that I worked for a veterinarian) that he had applied for vet school...but wasn't smart enough! His own words.... <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm sure he was just being funny

He didn't but made me an appointment to see his nutritionist in 2 weeks. I don't think 800 is excessive though. I aim for 800 but just can't seem to get there. I will send you an update after I see the nutritionist.

A couple of things: weight gain should have been a sign that something was wrong.

In the hospital, no doctor, nurse, nutritionist or food service would give that much intake to anyone that had abdominal surgery of any kind. It's an immediate red flag.

I have no clue if this is a case of an inept group of medical "professionals" or someone pissed that a doc wouldn't sleeve her and is now seeking retribution.

We have seen both here -

We have seen doctors give less than zero followup and dietary guidelines and we have seen people throw away their guidelines on the way to get a cheeseburger and a shake 5 days after surgery.

Lets not feed into the drama.

My two cents...

So what is OP is lying or exaggerating? What if she isn't lying or exaggerating? What if it's something in between?

This forum is not a place to play Sherlock Holmes or House or Gotcha.

It's no skin off my back if she's not being truthful (I like "not being truthful" better than "lying"...seems much less confrontational, especially when there is no proof). So, I offer my opinion and support to someone who might or might not be truthful...What did I lose? At most I lost a few minutes of typing, at best I offered support to fellow human being....

I just need to say that when I was in the hospital and the "meals" came, the tray usually contained a variety of things at once...yogurt, Protein Drink, broth so it's not that unlikely.

I think speaking in absolutes is a thing we should avoid here!

There are so many differences between our experiences and our doctors way of doing things.

He did X-rays today's and That's how he came about the reason. I have already requested my surgery pictures today. I do know that I didn't have to drink the leak test stuff in the hospital because they said it was no need. I have a close friend that had the surgery in march of 2012, she referenced me to her surgeon for a second opinion. Once I have all that I need to know I will glad upload pics and paper.

This is not something that I came up with. As I have stated in previous post. I have never felt ANY of the things that you all have felt. I was in weds and out Friday on the treadmill sat and back at work on Monday. With not a on e of Any pain Meds. I walk and or work out 5 days a week. I eat what I am suppose to. I live with someone who had the surgery 6 months before me so if I were eat wrong she would have let me know. Only thing that she has ever said to me was that she thinks that I drink to much Protein. I am very afraid of losing my hair. My doc td me as long as I get my protein in I should be fine. So I drink protein all day long. Drinking wise I probably get 120 grams a day not including the food I eat.

This is already a stressful thing for me so please please don't tell me I am confused about something that my SURGEON has told me. Weather it be right or wrong I no what was said to me. So I am now taking it to the me t level to get the problem fixed. Once again I just wanted to know of any surgeons I. My area or has anyone ever went thru this before.

This is absolutely horrible. I can't imagine. If the surgeon messed up the procedure or didn't do it right.....I don't think I would be very rational with him. I hate that you are going through this.

Well I'm sorry that you feel that way. I didn't make this post to prove anything to you. I simply posted it because I wanted to know if anyone else went thru the same thing.

Okay, 1st let me apologize for your doctor's stupidity. Doctor's can be super sneaky especially when they are trying to cover their own butt. I know this is super stressful and annoying and disappointing, but i dont want you to blame yourself or allow anyone to blame you either because as we have discussed, its completely irrational to stretch your stomach 7 weeks out. Your doctor screwed something up. Get a second opinion 1st to confirm your doctors incompetence then Speak to your insurance, and let them know that the procedure wasnt correctly performed. Dont worry, you will be fine and all of this will be taken care of.

best to you & keep me posted!

Hi. I am new. I am three months in toward my 6 month required pre-op appointments. I have been looking forward to this board helping by not only providing information' date=' but support. However, I am really surprised by all the nasty comments. Is this how it always is? I have seen it on several other topics as well. Now I am sure that some people are grumpy without food, but I am just so blown away at some of the responses from people. It does not make me feel encouraged if I have a question in the future.[/quote']

Not every board, nor everyone on here rude. This particular post just stirred some things up and is causing a divide between many people here. I joined right before I had my surgery and have had no issues with the responses from anyone. So don't let this forum deter you from joining in on any others. This is just a weird occurrence that no one here has the answers to and we all deal with uncertainties/questions differently. You're just seeing the various personalities here.

I ordered the Barbecue Protein Crisps here from BariatricPal, and find them quite tasty. The Ranch flavour, not so much. They are very filing and have a satisfying crunch.
I continue to shrink, and am amazed at the changes all over my body. Visually, it is striking to me. In the mirror, I look thin to my eyes, but I don't feel thin, although I can see more bones and veins and tendons and floppy skin. Cardio-wise, It takes a lot more effort to get my heart rate up and I'm now monitoring which heart zone I can get into and for how long. My resting heart rate is the lowest it's ever been.
If I think about it, and I left myself feel it for a time, I weep (like, boohoo cry) with joy. I am so grateful to myself, and proud of myself for having the courage to have taken the leap to better health.

Feeling a little sad today because a few weeks ago I had a call from the surgeon's office and they had a last minute opening on November 20 because of a cancellation. I am not scheduled until December 27, which is way later than I had expected when I started all this. My "ideal" date in my head had been November 13. I was so ready to jump at the chance, but I just couldn't make it work. As soon as I mentioned it to my mom, instead of being supportive, she had all sorts of reasons why I shouldn't move the date. Some were valid, like my teen daughter has a special (but not super special) thing going on later in the week that I would probably have to miss, and others were less valid, like she didn't feel ready and it might ruin everyone's holidays. Um, excuse me? It's not about her! And how would I single handedly ruin both Thanksgiving AND Christmas for my entire family by having a surgery? But she had informed me when I first got the December date that she planned on getting a hotel near the hospital and staying that night to be nearby, despite the hospital only being about 40 miles away from home. I didn't ask her to do that, but that's her plan, so there you go. She didn't ask me if I felt ready now, or what the wait through the holidays felt like for me with the surgery looming. So that was the part that hurt. I felt like I was having to make sure everyone else was okay with my choices instead of me, which is a theme in my life for sure. Don't get me wrong, my parents have been there for me so many times, and I don't want to sound ungrateful. But this really made me sad that what I wanted simply didn't factor in. Basically, I passed on what felt like a dream come true to get that call, and I've had to reconcile myself to it as best I can. I've found some silver linings, like more time to clean my house and test some recipes. But if I hadn't, I would be on my pre-op diet now (my surgeon only does a short liquid diet beforehand, so a Monday surgery starts the pre-op diet on Saturday morning). Instead, I'm getting ready to make dinner for myself and the kids, and I still have 39 days to go...

I can relate to the parent's situation. I am 42 and still struggle with pleasing them. Yet they do whatever they want with no concern for how it affects anyone else, so why do I feel so obligated to them? I wish I had some advice that could help. One thing I have tried to do is stop sharing things with them that I really don't want to hear their opinion on. (like the business I am starting)

Like with this surgery, I knew I was going to need their help getting to the appointments and back from the surgery, so I knew I had to tell them. But I did not tell them until I was almost at the point of getting surgery that I was doing this.

I got hard judgment from my father, which I expected, I made him promise not to share this with his brothers (who are assholes) I told him whether he likes it or not I am an adult and I deserve respect and privacy especially when it concerns my health. (he begrudgingly agreed)

My mom on the other hand was supportive, but she has the tendency to add some dramatic flair about everything. her typical M.O. is to pop onto social media and rattle on about how something that is not happening directly to her, is affecting her ( I get it there no talking to the man she married about this stuff, so it's nice to have someone to listen).

I know they both struggled with trying to respect my wishes, they looked shocked when I told them that if I lived somewhere else, I would not have even told them I was having this surgery.

      2. NickelChip

I'm glad your father did agree to respect your privacy by not sharing with your family. And I guess I should be glad my mom keeps the dramatic flair off of the socials!

I'm both lucky and unlucky that my brother had VGS 15 years ago. On the one hand, my mom understands the concept and has seen my brother's good results from it, (we inherited the obesity from my father's side, and Mom has never dealt with more than those pesky 10 lbs average weight people always want to lose). On the other hand, my brother took exactly the opposite approach from me. He didn't live near family and told no one, had no support. He went to Mexico as self-pay and didn't say a word until about 4 weeks after when he was having some serious emotional struggles, living alone, and compounded by the fear of realizing that to get family support, he had to "confess." So his recovery was very different than what I anticipate for me. But because of all that, my mom definitely sees this as a "REALLY BIG DEAL." Which it is, but not the level she's at with it. Like, it's not an open heart surgery being performed in 1982, or experimental cancer treatment. I've also noticed that as my mom ages, she takes change a lot harder. She doesn't have the mental flexibility anymore to make an instant change of plans and roll with it, whereas I do that probably a dozen times a day.

I'm grateful for their help, but it comes at a price.
