Today is the first day the nausea is tolerable. I am having two major difficulties and need some suggestions on what do to do.

1. How do I relieve the gasy/nausesous feeling? How long does it typically last?

2. Does anyone have problems sleeping? It's killing me.

Please any help you can give would make me so appreciative! :)

Yes to all! I am 13 days out. Pain meds made my belly worse ! I switched to aleve day 2.

Walk walk walk and gasx! 3-5 days before gas passes or absorbed. Mine was about 5.

Don't worry....all normal. Drink warm fluids , pace, and sleep will come. Some sleep most of day I think I went with little sleep for days.

It does get better. Do not worry.

Good luck!

Hi ohitsmorgan,

For the gas, walk, I know it hurts and your probably tired from lack of sleep and surgery but get up and walk even if it's 5 minutes (even if it's just marching place!) it helps. I also used an ice pack on my stomach and heating pad where I felt the gas and of course used gas x strips. I put one on the tongue and one under (this is what the nurses had me do in the hospital).

I didn't have nausea except when taking nausea medicine so I'm no help there...lol

Sleep-I had horrible insomnia after surgery. It took a couple of weeks for me to get back to a normal sleep schedule. Don't have a remedy, just rode the wave until it ended.

I hope you feel better, sip your Water and walk it's sooo important right now! It will get better :-)

sleep in your recliner. Drink slowly and warm liquids if possible and they can call you in something for nausea. I also lived on Sonic crushed ice. You can buy it by the bag for under $2 here.

Before you take aleve, check with your doctor. It is an NSAID and they supposedly irritate your stomach and are on the do not take list from my doctor.

Narcotic pain medications by nature cause nausea so the sooner you can get yourself to stop taking them the sooner your nausea will get better. Tylenol is a better choice for a mild pain relief because it doesn't irritate the stomach as much, but if possible you are better if you can avoid any pain meds, I know for some that isn't possible. Good Luck.

I had surgery 1/21 and don't sleep well at night either. Not from pain, nor nausea- I am finding I am just not sleeping. If I do sleep it's now in 1-2 hour increments, and up to use the bathroom with a loose gassy almost BM- but not a BM. Anyone experiencing that?

I had surgery on 1/16 and on my one week apt with my Dr he suggested that I take Benadryl before bed. As of right now I take one before bed and I am sleeping a solid 7-8 hours. I was so thankful. Sleeping was not happening. As of now, I am having a harder time with hunger cravings. I am following the liquid diet to a T but it is so difficult. About 17lbs down since surgery but this morning was the first morning I woke up without a weight loss..I was bummed and I feel so bloated. Hoping Mon morning brings better news. Still very sore.

Walk as much as you can, I walked a big circle around my kitchen, dinning room and livingroom. As much as I didn't want to it soooo helped. My doc also gave me Zofran and liquid percecet I took them together so I wouldnt get sick. The liquid perc's helped me sleep, the Zofran helped the sick feeling. I also slept on the couch propped up by pillows, I didn't sleep flat for about 5 days. After the 5th day it was like a light switch went on and I felt 80 percent better, I could have gone back to work thats how good I felt, so it will and does get soo much better.

Oh yea and someone else wrote drink warm liquid, that is so true it felt so much better in my tummy, I drank Caffiene free Sleepy Time tea, it was soothing and relaxed me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
