About not lifting 10 lbs.

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm actually Preop bit I have a post op q. I have a baby that I have got to put in his crib twice a morning while dh is at work. Noone is going to come over just to put the baby down for me. Now I'm taking this seriously, and definitely don't want to cause myself harm but.... Really? What am I supposed to do?

I almost deleted this because it sounds lame written out, but I really want an answer. O.o there's got to be an exception for the rule? Or something....,,,

I also have a little one at home. One of the things I did was put the crib mattress on the floor with a toddler rail on the side and i didn't have to pick her up out of her crib. It made things easier! I wouldn't push yourself too much but I started picked her up about 5 days post op and could feel a little tug where my incisions were. She weighs about 30 lbs :) good luck!

My baby is 9 months old weighs about 24 pounds and I can't help but pick him up. No pain just some discomfort where my drain is still in.

I was so worried about this too and was too embarrassed to ask this question! I'm 15 days post op and have had to pick up my 11 months old (who is around 22 lbs) out of his crib and all that since day 5 when all my help went back to work. I just tried to be as careful as possible. I had my 2 week post op appt yesterday and am doing fine and okay to lift up to 25 lbs now.

My post-op instructions say not to lift more than 20 lbs, not 10. I have even seen another doctor's post-op instructions that allows lifting up to 30 lbs. I don't have a baby, but I do carry a backpack to school that definitely weighs over 10 lbs and I have had no pain or trouble. I was also lifting my suitcase in the hospital the same day of surgery, after surgery--I packed light, but it probably weighed over 10 lbs as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
